Thanks,

Take the battery out again, but leave it out for a couple minutes. This
gives the circuits in the camera time to fully discharge.(Cold Boot in
computer terms) In the mean time look at the front of the lens and see if
the aperture is closed down, if it is remove the lens and remount back on
the camera. (look to see if the mirror is down in its normal position).
Once you have the lens back on, see if the aperture is wide open now. When
you removed the battery and re-installed the first time, what did the
battery level show when you turned the camera back on? Sometimes when the
battery is almost used up you can get very strange problems.
If everything goes back to normal after you had the battery out for a couple
minutes and the battery
is almost new, I would shoot a test roll to see if the camera acts up
again, if it does take it to a Minolta service center.

Take the lens off and look for a tab on the black ring just inside the
lens mount. Is it roughly in a 4 o'clock position? If so this is why
the things are dark. The lens is being stopped down instead if wide
open for viewing. The tab on the preset ring should normally be in
about the 3 o'clock position or higher. If the tab is at 4 o'clock
your have a preset ring control problem.
Regarding my reply, below, I am referring to the camera body.
