The one of the mirrors most likely came unglued. There are two mirrors
that reflect the in-finder LCD and LEDs down to the proper area of the
viewfinder system. This was fairly common back when we used to service
the 7000 at Minolta.

Thanks a lot for the tip. Is this something that I could fix myself or does
it require special tools and technical drawings? How do I get to the
mirrors?

Regards,
Michael

The top cover needs to be removed. At the very top front of the camera
after the top cover is removed is the LCD, LED holder. There is a gray
colored thin metal shield that is attached with doublstick tape,
carefully pull it off.

You will see 2 silver colored screws at each end of the LCD, LED
holder. remove the screws. At this time turn the camera upside down
and shake it. most likely the mirror will fall out. If turn the LCD,
LED holder upside down so you can look into it you can see where the
mirror(s) was glued. Bascially, the repair involves gluing the mirror
back in place we used Pliobond. Before the glue sets hard you need to
put the holder back in its original position check for alignment by
looking through the viewfinder, shift the mirror's position as
neccessary.

You were absolutely right with the mirror. The mirror fell down as soon as I
had lifted the LCD/LED holder. Now I just need to buy some glue and put it
back together. Thanks again for your excellent instructions. I appreciate
your help.

Anon, you are a real gem and I sure hope you NEVER leave this newsgroup.

I switched to Minolta SLRs nearly 25 years ago, have never had a problem with one
yet, but I suppose sooner or later something will have to go wrong and it's mighty
comforting to know that you're here as a generous contributor.
