What is your budget? I would say that a good Nikon would be great. The
N70 is a great AF camera, with full manual compatibilty. The user
interface is a little non standard, but still usable. A full manual
camera, maybe a Pentax K1000.

For that you can get a F70...(N70 over here in the states) and a
50/1.8....A GREAT lens.

The N/F70 is not a manual SLR, and its ergonomics leave a lot to
be desired - it's a nightmare to use.
You might want to try a used Nikon FM2/FE2/FM10 or used
Pentaxes such as the K1000 or Spotmatics. These are very
rugged and will take a lot of (ab)use.
The N/F70 is NOT a nightmare to use. I learned on the N70, and now use
it as a backup to my F100. For the money, it may be more useful then
the FM2/FE2 or FM10 as it will do everything all of those will do with a
manual lens, plus drop on an AF and you have a good AF platform, as well
as a built in flash for those times he wants a point and shoot. It
covers all the bases. I agree with the K1000. I have one of those as
well. Fun camera. If it were my cash, the N70 would still be my
choice. Great deals on manual focus Nikkors out there.

I do not have any experience with either camera but I think the Braun
SR2000 would be the better choice. It is a chinese-made rather simple
non-AF camera, but its design is much newer than that of the Zenit
cameras which are based on 1930's technology. But you should get a
'prime' lens for the Braun SR2000 as I have been told that its
standard zoom lens is a nice paperweight but nothing more. There are
plenty of lenses available on the used equipment market for K mount.
Otherwise I have heard of people who made good experience with the
Braun SR2000.
The Braun SR2000 may be one of the very few cameras still available
for Pentax (K) mount but there are many others on the used camera
market, like the Ricoh K models and many cameras from Chinon and
Cosina. Of course with any low-budget camera - may it be used or new -
you will lack some features but that's the compromise you'll have to
do.
Check the used equipment shelves of your local dealers - you are very
likely to find a camera body (and probably lenses, too) with Pentax K
mount.
All current and past (back to 1975) Pentax cameras use the K mount with forward
and backward compatibility. There are only three exceptions - the current ZX60,
and the discontinued ZX30 and ZX50.
Even those will function with KA and later lenses. All others will accept and
function properly with K, M, KA, and KAF lenses
within the limits of the contacts on the camera/lens.
