So, I returned the camera for a replacement and to my even greater
disappointment, I found that the 2nd one was exactly the same! So a 3rd is
on its way.
But I am a little concerned: Are they all like this? Perhaps its not a
problem in day-to-day use, and that's just the way they are?
Since discovering this "feature" I have searched the web and found several
other posts mentioning this problem. Are there any other T3 owners out
there who could test theirs?
Simply hold your hand outstretched and focus on it - the macro light will
light (i.e. correct, since your hand is quite close)
Move your hand to the left of the focus mark and focus again - the macro
light doesn't light (i.e. also correct: the camera ignores your hand and
focusses on the background)
Move your hand to the right of the mark - the macro light lights up again!
Why is the camera focussing on something that's on the side of the
picture????
This is not a parallax issue - it also is evident with distant shots. But
the above "hand" example easily demonstrates the problem.
Any comments?
Cheers,
Chip.
Thanks. But have you checked to see if it is aligned correctly?
Chip.
I was very happy with my al cheapo Olympus Mju II until someone taught me
how to look for the spot AF point and the multibean AF pointS on the view
finder.
Now I know that the spot AF point is not exactly at the centre of the
viewfinder, the imaginery point where the four marker lines suppose to meet.
Mine is somewhere at the midpoint along the right horizontal marker line.
I have also found out not to my liking the two focusing points for the
Multi-beam AF are not symmetrically placed. The one on the left is somewhere
at the mid-point along the left horizontal marker line. And the right one is
at the right end of the right marker line on the viewfinder.
Now I have draw myself a diagram and mark out the AF points both Spot and
Multi-beam AFs on a lable and stick it to the back of my Mju II as a
reminder to the user (myself) where to look for the AF points!

Blurry ones, presumably ;-)
Seriously, would you mind checking it when you have 30 seconds?
Thanks,
Chip.
