Canon Powershot A610 or A620?

pretty much narrowed the choice to the above two Powershots (CanonA610
and A620)
Input from actual owners of each pro/con or no difference would be
appreciated.
Also as to vendor I have good prices for each Canon from buy.com,
buydig.com and from preferredphoto.com. Any good/bad experiences with
any of those online sellers would also be quite helpful.

I used buydig once and all was well. I usually try to buy from Newegg
whenever possible. They set the standard. Looks like they're out of stock
at the moment on the 620 but offer a free 1gb card.

However, I would recommend:

extremely pleased with their service. I was told by a local vendor
that the prices quoted for my list of items was generally around 10%
above wholesale. Others have noted similar experiences. Other

attempts to sell expensive extras. They have about the best price right now.
Today's Sunday paper Officemax ad has it in the store for $228.88. So far, I
haven't had a chance to do much besides a few test shots. One thing I notice
is it's very quick when you turn it on. But then I was used to an old Nikon
Coolpix 800. The 620 has a nice feel to it with a nice combo of metal and
plastic. It certainly has some heft when you have the batteries in it. I
would also mention that the latest Consumer Reports has it at the top of its
category. It's received many other good reviews with about the only issue
being that's the images show quite a bit of noise at ISO 400 setting. One
other thing: I've been looking at getting additional SD cards for it. A lot
of people apparently are finding out that their cameras won't accept the
latest high speed 4GB SD cards. Apparently the 620 does; not sure about the
610.

Thanks to iws and remove. The best price for the 2 models I'm looking
into are from preferredphoto.com (way lower than other vendors). I've
asked them to certify I am not purchasing a refurbished camera but I'm
expanding my reaseach thanks to the informative replies received here.
Thanks to all. And yes I want a camera that accepts the SD/MMC Card for
sure. If the 620 does but the 610 does not that would be a difference
maker.

They offer a refurbished unit for $175 and a new unit for $193. Ground
freight is $15. Total of $208. Buydig has it for $214. Check out the bad

they'll call you and try to get you to buy unnecessary stuff as well as add
other charges to your bill. The resellerratings website has stopped taking
new comments because of suspicious "Very Satisfied" ratings!!! For a few
extra bucks, avoid the possible hassle and go with a place you can trust;
there are plenty around $215 delivered.

Well, they both take the SD cards; it was the high speed 4 GB cards that it
seems some cameras don't like.

I second the advice from iws and would avoid prefferedphoto like the
plague. Every post I have seen from people who had the misfortune to
deal with a company with such a low rating was at best distasteful
(and not such a good deal after all) to down right horrendous.

FYI regarding preferredphoto. Before even getting the bad feedback here
I sent them a straightforward e-mail asking them to simply explain
their so-called "21 day satisfaction guarantee" and to certify the
camera was new/not refurbished. Their website promises to reply to all
e-mail with 24 (business hours). 50+ hours and counting, I've heard zip
from them.
Time for me to pull the trigger. But this Board has been so great I'm
waiting a few more hours for one of y'all to give me a feet to the fire
recommendation: theA610 OR the A620? If you had to choose one. [I know
its time to actually buy the thing!!]]

I went with the A610, since someone in the Canon forum on dpreview
showed some experiments he'd done with both the A610 and the A620 that
he'd happened to have at the same time. He reported that the A610 is 1/3
to 1/2 stops faster in low-light conditions (without flash). And it has
a faster burst rate too.

Personally if it came down to these two cameras I'd get the A620.....
Why? Because it's what's available at Newegg and it comes with a 1 GB
SD all for $220 (a steal!). Beach/Buydig overcharge for accessories;
you'll pay $214 for the camera and $45 for the cheapest 1GB SD (at
Newegg the 1GB SD cards start at $20). And avoid Preferred Photo (aka
Broadway Photo) like they were radioactive; it's a front for a scam
that should have been shut down years ago.

Actually, with shipping it's over $231 (they charge shipping on the SD card)
while buydig $214 includes shipping. Still, the newegg deal is better
because of the high speed SD card. Wish they'd had it when I got mine!

Well, my decision a couple of weeks ago was to get the A620. Now, there's
only ten bucks or so difference in price between the two. Besides the
additional megapixels, the A620 also has some additional software for
"PC-controlled shooting". Don't ask me I haven't used it yet. And, as
whoisit said, newegg only has the A620 and their deal with the SD card is
outstanding.

choice. Funny, as I was on the phone talking to my wife about it, she
got a coupon via email from office max for $40 off any purchase (over
$200), so my final price was $188.
And, when I got to circuit city to get an SD card, turns out their
Sandisk 512 MB cards were on sale for $34, buy one get one free, with a
$15 rebate from Sandisk - so, 1MG total for $20....granted, these were
not the ultra II cards, but name brand & price vs. MB - it seemed the
right choice. I'm looking forward to seeing how it compares with my
A80 that I've really enjoyed over the past few years....

If you have a Costco membership I would recommend giving them a try.
They currently have the A620 for $219.99 (+ S&H if you order online)
which is the same price that I paid for the A610 when I purchased from
them this past December.

If you are only going to view the pictures on screen, then there isn't
much difference - I'd go for the one with the best price/package deal
(figure in shipping).
If you plan on printing a lot of your shots, I'd go for the A620 - The
greater pixel count allows more cropping latitude.

Ongoing appreciation folks. STILL haven't completed purchase from
newegg--with the card the A620 is about $231 for Camera (220.99) =
shipping charge for both the camera (6.77 ) AND the free card (over
$4.00). PLUS they added on sales tax (being shipped to New Jersey).
The problem is that I get all the way through their order screen and
before I press Confirm Purchase having already entered my credit card
info the screen STILL does not backout the cost of the "free" SD card
I shot off an e-mail to them 4 hours ago asking if I must enter some
type of promotion code on an earlier screen but though I like the
"deal"
their customer service access/response thus far is iffy (I called too
the guy had only a semi-clue) . Just waiting for them to "subtract"
19.99 from the Total Cost (which will be in excess of $231 if tax is
charged).

When you added the camera to your cart did you then click the radio button
next to the sd card combo special? When I do it and click checkout, I end up
with a screen showing only 1 item for $240.98 Unit Price then to the right
of that a -$19.99 Combo entry and next to that a total price of 220.99.
