I have an old laptop with a working LCD screen. Does anyone know if
it is possible to take it apart and convert it to use as a digital
picture frame. Has anyone done this? What will it take to do it? Is
feasible or even possible?

A long band cable between the monitor and the computer and
then just hide the computer. Or take the two apart and make
a thick display or ... just accept that the display looks
like a computer.

Do a search on the net for this - I can remember a good article on a modding
page (case modification) but can't remember where.

If you leave the working motherboard, operating system and disk drive
in place, it should be easy. If you want to develop you own I/O,
storage and display driver, then good luck!

There was an article and discussion thread on doing this at
http://slashdot.org. As I recall it was an old Apple laptop. The
article went into both the construction and the software setup.

I was wondering the same thing. I have a Sony laptop that does not
work and I wondered about how to slavage the LCD monitor to use by
itself...

i don't think its possible; the two laptops i've had the pleasure to pull
apart had a sort-of ribbon cable attached to the laptop motherboard.
therefore i doubt its possible.

(NASA? Ask one of your IT people!!!)

A good idea however, is to use the laptop as a virtual picture frame. load a
gallery of images onto the laptop HHD, start up a slide show, and hand on
the wall.

Theres a site 'out there' that shows a person creating this digital picture
frame....looking now...

I dont think you'll have ANY luck getting adaptors and such to run just an
LCD. I think you'll need to fix the laptop.
