I am beginning to feel lied to with regard to the weather. It was 77ºF (25ºC) at Morro Bay today. We didn't have days like today all Summer! That said, it was a perfect day to fly the DJI Air 2S.

Dang you keep on tempting me into going drone shopping.

FWIW, what would you buy today if you had to do it all over (& why)?

Likewise, what would you consider/recommend for something that's
also focused on being sufficiently compact for international travel?
Assume a conventional dSLR/equivalent is also in tow for space claim
competition in the carry-on bag.

What a fantastic day! A great clip, and I love your 'Helipad'.
Having sat through about 10 days of rain, looking at a clear sky is very soothing. :-)
Thanks, Mr Duck.

Somehow the link isn't working for me... searching at google I found some similar links, like here:
https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/65597461

So, judging from the format of the link there, it seems that somehow the underscore in the link got replaced with %20. No idea why.. but the link works in case I swap them back.

The %20 is indicative of a space caused by an auto-wordwrap in a newsreader.

The way to generally prevent that is to manually add caps < > to the URL, such as thusly:

<https://photos.smugmug.com/Air-2-Work-2021/i-g4qL6Ht/0/d530f7d6/1920/Morro_Bay_November_29p-1920.mp4>

This makes the contiguous URL link generally more recognizable to newsreaders, breaking it less often.

I have been having more fun with drone/aerial photography/videography than I thought possible when I first explored the idea as a way to deal with the 2020 COVID lockdown. Since then my good old fashion terrestrial photography has become somewhat neglected. If you have the inclination go for it, I am sure there are some reasonable deals available this sale season.
>
> FWIW, what would you buy today if you had to do it all over (& why)?

In my case I would probably still buy the DJI Air 2S I am flying now. It has solid flight characteristics, and has a reasonable 1” sensor which can deliver up to a 5.4K 30fps video, but for the most part I shoot 4K 30fps, or 60fps, and the stills shots are pretty good, with the ability to shoot panos which would be impossible without that “tripod in the sky”. Just bear in mind that this has a fixed f/2.8 aperture so ND filters are a necessary add on. If you go that route I recommend buying the Fly More Combo which adds 2 more batteries, extra props, a battery charge bank, and a usable bag. All available direct from DJI, or B&H, Adorama, or BestBuy.
<https://www.dji.com/air-2s>

There is also the option of buying a used, or refurbished DJI Mavic 2 Pro which has a 1" sensor with the addition of an adjustable aperture.

I am also tempted by the newly released DJI Mavic 3 which has a 4/3 camera and adjustable aperture, but has some issues early adopters are discovering. It seems that many of the features are yet to be activated via firmware update some time in the New Year. From my point of view they released it way too early, especially as this is not an inexpensive drone, and way too expensive to consider as a beginner, or hobbyist drone.

One of your biggest concerns with international travel is going to be how local regulations are going to limit your flying. Currently a sub-250g drone such as the DJI Mini 2, or the Autel Nano+ are going to be your best portable international travel drone options, and are not a bad choice for a first drone. The only issue is I have yet to hear of anybody actually owning, of flying one of the Autel Nano’s, whereas I have only heard good things of the Mini 2, and I will probably buy myself a Mini 2 (or Mini 3 if that is released soon) for my own international travels.

Good insight on various country regulations. I've also noticed that there's
some places that have instituted drone bans .. IIRC, some places in Africa
(makes sense, to reduce animal harassment and probably poaching) and
in Iceland (not sure if its just near highly tourist-trafficked sites or broader).
I think Rapa Nui (Easter Island) too, although if that's the case then we saw
someone violate it.

Thanks for a "brand that's not DJI" mention; DJI does appear to own much of
the market at present, so its useful to gain insight on other takes.

One of our groups of students are going to build their own drone.
Don't know too much about it other than this is the basic frame they want

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Drone-Frame-Integrated-Quadcopter-Aircraft/dp/B07N67KQTD

and all the other parts currently come to about £300

Wondering how we'll interprete any legal regs but I'm not letting them use it in my lab.

I don't know, but space is one of the 'unsafe' characters in a URI/URL

the offending character(s).

By accident? David, you drop names and other personal info on a regular

The more recent thread also had some issues for me (as shown in the screenshot

to "%20" in the url issue. Sometimes the page loaded ok, sometimes it didn't
(happened multiple times).

The link at the start of this thread *always* fails to load in my desktop pc.. though

Why don't you ask? Oh, that's right, you've been banned there.

One day it might dawn on you that getting yourself banned everywhere
isn't the best approach, but for now I guess you'll have to ask others

You might like to look me up there and see what I used to talk about.

Perhaps you would also ask WHY the moderators there have given me a
lifetime ban from posting there under my own nym (HunterBD)

I can, of course, sign in with a different Apple ID.
A poster there called 'deggie' told me that doing so is common practice
and a real-life friend was TOLD by Apple Support to do that very thing.

"used to" is exactly right.

Why not just tell him?

But you can't go more than a post or two without revealing yourself.

You appear to be very well informed - but you are not!

What? That it's place fraught with danger?

Thank you. It's not hard.

No. Look a few lines above, idiot. Instead of suggesting that he ask the
moderators why you've received a lifetime ban, why don't you just tell
him why you've received a lifetime ban? Is it just your nature to send
people the long way around the barn? Are you afraid that you wouldn't be
able to tell him honestly?

That's what I know. You can't help it.

I have no idea why my official Apple ID is rejected.

There's absolutely *no way* that you could "know". You're full of sh*t!

I can help you with that. The reason is that you've earned yourself a
lifetime ban. That ban came after you earned a few short term bans. Is
it starting to come back to you now?

Of course I know you can't go longer than a post or two before you
reveal yourself. Did you think you were more clever than that?

For how long have you been stalking me?

Yes. I *am* more clever than that!

Look for me under another name.

What does my dossier say on that topic?

Hardly.

Does anyone consider any of the files/folders shown here to be 'hidden'?
