This may not be the right group for this. If so, please suggest a
better place and accept my apologies.

I would like to obtain the hi-res version of the images from Google
Maps. Is that possible? I am willing to pay a nominal fee.

I am able to capture the screen image, but that is fairly low
resolution.

Thanks for any help or pointers to where else I should ask.

looks like you need one of the non-free versions of google earth:

I used TerraServer. Costs were acceptable for a company - will depend
on your budget.

User interface is a bit clunky. IIRC you had to purchase a minimum
amount per year to get the images without a visible watermark (about
$125.00). A large (4096 x 4096) image at about 1.6 metre/pixel
resolution was on the order of $60 or so.

You could also use Google maps/earth, screenshot and stitch with a
mosaic stitching program. Might take a while...

If you only want to do this a few times, it is simple to copy
neighbouring regions at a higher zoom and then paste them together. Note
that the ultimate resolution in Google Earth depends on the quality of
the data at the specific place you are imaging. Much of the earth is
only displayed at relatively low resolution - using data from satellite
images, but certain countries/cities/places are displayed at higher
resolution using aerial photography data.

Or you can try the Google Earth Pro version at $400 annually.

Yes

"Nominal"?? Well then, probably not possible to get what you want.

Why do that manually? Get http://www.stitchmaps.com/

Thanks for the tip. I'll play around with the free one. If that works,
but is too low res, I'll upgrade to the $20 or, maybe, the $400
version.

According to the Google Earth website, I can get image resolutions of
1,000 pixels (Free or Plus) or 4,800 pixels (Pro). But it doesn't say
what size the image is.

Can I assume that if I want to blow an image up to twice its size on
the screen, that I would need to zoom in until it is double the size
and then stitch the pieces together?
