...not the "wallets" that hold several, but the tiny ones scarcely larger
than the cards themselves. My local camera store sells plastic cases a
couple of inches long and at least a quarter of an inch thick that are
supposed to hold just one SD card, but you can usually cram two into
them. But what I want are the *really* compact ones. The ones that
the SD cards come in if you're lucky.

Question: what happened to the ones your SD cards came in?

You mean, the ones that your SD cards come it if you're lucky? I have
one of those; the rest of my SD cards either came shrink-wrapped to a
piece of cardboard, or in a plastic case much larger than the card.

This might not be be much help, but I seem to recall a company named
"Porter" something or other for a similar question many months ago.
Do some looking - it might be as simple as porter.com

Are you trying to protect the cards from something?

Trying to keep them clean, mostly.

If I can't find the tiny cases, I'll just put them in pill-sized ziplock
bags, but those are a nuisance.

You could try tape (athletic or electical, not Scotch or masking) and
just over the contacts.
One thing I like about the CF cards is the contacts are well protected.

Tape? Sticky? Adhesive? Electrical contacts?
If any of the tape's adhesive gets onto the contacts in the camera ...

Over her in the UK we have small soft plastic bags in which to put coins.
They are available free of charge from our banks. I've used them to protect
my CF cards and my camera's spare battery.

Best wishes from a rather snowy England,

A question I have is whether there are many fake SD cards on the market.
I've seen a few USB sticks which aren't what the claim to be advertised.
Some how they fake them and the capacity is wrong i.e you buy a 32GB to find
out it's only 1GB

You've got a good point. I've used tape without incident on my Canon
batteries, but their contacts are recessed so the tape could not get on
them. If keeping dry with a minimum of packaging were top reasons, good
tape might still be a solution.

I can't get an enlarged picture of them, but they look thick.
Besides, shipping from the UK to the US would be prohibitive
anyway.

This may be silly, but...

I assume that you are using SD HC. If so, your best bet might be to
watch Fry's or some other local store for sales on low capacity SD
cards; you might be able to pick some up for a buck or two each and
throw the cards away or take them out of the cases and give them to
Goodwill.

Yeah, the cheapest SD cards I saw were sold without cases. :-( I
bought a pack of Listerine strips, though; If I can rinse the Listerine
out of the container adequately, I will give that a try.

I already have those--those are the bulky ones, at least a quarter inch
thick.

As tape is not the best insulator, that's a good thing.

A bit of paper, well covered by tape, for battery contacts.
(also prevents gumming up the contacts).

Paul,

Tamrac's Digital line makes neopren cases for CF cards. They are
designed to fit on their neck straps but I'll bet you can slip them off.
Check the Tamrac line. By the way they are single cases.

Insulation tape isn't bad at insulating ;-)
Although it can leave a sticky residue on a surface, you could always use
sticky tape
to make an envelope a bit like some do with speed/coke wraps ;-)

Sure, but if J Random Person says 'red tape', does J Random
Bureaucat think of electrical insulation tape? :-)

I've made three eBay "Buy It Now" card purchases (two CF items and a MicroSD),
in the past, with no problems whatsoever.

(Largest one was 2GB.)
