How odd. I have a 1/2.5" sensor, that's even smaller, on one of my P&S
cameras and it has a dynamic range of 10.3 EV.

If you want to compare a P&S sensor with a APS-C one you can:

A DSLR will hold it's value better than a P&S and you can use old
interchangeble lenses on a new DSLR camera.
