I am rigging up a portrait studio on the cheap and have been borrowing
TVs as live monitors telling how the shoot is going, letting both the
art director and the model periodically see what is being captured. One
of the monitors was a cheapo portable dvd player (used at the camera),
the other was an old school tube tv.

1) Has anyone seen cheap 7 inch monitors that are without the dvd
player? (sub $150)

2) Will the canon d30 I buy kill the video on the cameras built-in
screen when I plug into the monitor like my olympus 5050 does?

3) Has anyone started doing this? I find it fantastic to have everyone
in on the look of the work, so it can be fixed before everyone goes
home. I just hate having tv littering my space.

Thanks so much!

I'll answer my own post.

I found a standard aspect "headrest monitor" for those kids in the
backseat that need oprah. It was 6", had good resolution and
refurbished, selling at $65. I also found numerous 17" LCD monitors
with TV tuners and composite video-in for around $250. Thats my next
purchase.

These monitors are wonderful for sharing the shoot with others in the
room.
