Can anyone in the UK recommend a digital photo frame with a RANDOM
slideshow function?
We're looking to buy a frame for my girlfriend's parents' anniversary
and pre-load it with a hundred or so photos from their wedding through
to the present day. It is anticipated that my girlfriend's father will
add other family photos to the card or built-in memory as time goes on.
Obviously with a couple of hundred photos on board we don't want the
slideshow function to reset and display the same handful in the same
sequence whenever the frame is restarted, yet inexplicably this seems to
be the option that the vast majority of manufacturers have gone for.
I've spent the last hour or so trawling through various independent
review sites and customer reviews on sites such as Dabs.com and
Amazon.co.uk, and annoyingly all of the frames that otherwise meet my
criteria have this sequential slideshow problem.
The only one I've found that definitely has a 'shuffle' function on the
slideshow is this:

but at 7" it's a bit smaller than we would have liked. I've looked for a
manufacturer website to see if there are any other frames in the range,
but all search attempts ultimately lead back to that one.
Ideally we were looking for something 8-11" with a wood frame and black
cut-out, like this:

However at this point I am willing to expand my options quite a bit. I'm
really quite amazed at the attitude of the manufacturers and
distributors of these items. I realise it's still a relatively new
technology but in most cases the lack of information -- other than from
other customers' reviews -- is appalling.
So, to reiterate, can anyone please recommend a frame that might be
suitable and that's available in the UK either on the high street or
online? (Frustratingly, searches have revealed many potential leads that
go straight to USA-only sites).
As mentioned, by now we'd settle for pretty much any size and colour
(and even price) but the random or 'shuffle' slideshow option is an
absolute must.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check out Ceiva digital photo frames at ww.ceiva.com. I believe there
is a feature that randomize the photos displayed.
Hope this helps.

Alas, like so many others, "keep in mind that we are unable to accept
payment or ship to an address outside the U.S".
I really need a supplier in the UK (or, at the very least, a US supplier
with an expedited international shipping option such as FedEx).

There'an Amazon UK, but it doesn't show the ceiva 8-inch frame in
stock.
Maybe they can get it for you?

I'm not sure the Ceiva frames are officially available in the UK yet.
Their website says you can *use* the frames over here, but you don't get
access to the upload service or support. Perhaps this is why Amazon UK
ha such a meagre selection compared with the US.
Anyway, I've now bitten the bullet and ordered the Philips 9FF2M4. It
was nowhere near the top of my list when I started this trawl, but it's
the only frame for which I've been able to download the user guide and
verify that a Random Slideshow option exists in the menus. It's styled a
little too modern for my tastes, but my partner insists her parents will
like it so that's good enough for me.
I'm still stunned that so many manufacturers are putting out frames with
GB of storage potential and a non-random, start-at-the-beginning
slideshow feature. The large memory virtually demands a random (or at
least start-where-you-left-off) slideshow, and a linear slideshow pretty
much requires a minimal set of photos. The two features are mutually
exclusive.
Add to this a reluctance to provide accurate downloadable or web-based
specification details and buying one of these things is a lottery. Even
on Philips' own website it wasn't immediately clear from the
descriptions which, if any, of the frames had a Random option. I was
just fortunate the manual was available as a PDF under Support.
Maybe things will change as this technology becomes more commonplace and
the market expands. Right now, in the UK at least, it's a bit of a crap
shoot.
