Very lousy camera.

You bought a $100 camera from a store with a 7 rating! Be glad you got
the f***ing camera! Better yet, it takes something resembling pictures!
And you're complaining it's noisy? You've got to be kidding...
irax.
Not really complaining... Just presenting the argument
that the $100 is better spent on a camera that is not
so spec-heavy, with a lower pixel count...

For anyone contemplating dealing with Tiger Direct, let me share my
experiences. I had two run-ins with them, both of which were negative.
1: Several years ago I called in a credit order for additional RAM for one
of my computers. The amount was under 100 dollars. The person that took my
order said he was giving me a "free" 2-month subscription to any of 4
different magazines. I picked one, we hung up, and the memory arrived in a
couple of days, without incident. I received my "free" issues of the
computer magazine, also without incident. So far, so good.
Then, about 2 months after the date of my purchase I found that a magazine
subscription company in New York City had billed my credit card $27.00 for a
one-year subscription to the same magazine that Tiger had given me the two
"free" issues of. Tiger Software was in Florida. The credit card was
billed from a New York company. I telephoned the magazine, and a very irate
and obnoxious woman told me that the magazine had nothing to do with this,
and she instructed me to take the matter up with the company in New York,
and then she hung up on me.
When I called the subscription house, they told me that Tiger Software gave
them my credit card information, and they claimed that Tiger had played a
"disclosure statement" to me when I placed my order for RAM. I told them
that I had NEVER authorized either a charge for a subscription, nor a
transfer of my credit card information to any other company. I said that I
never heard any pre-recorded "disclosure statement," and that it would not
have mattered, even if they HAD played one--the mere playing of a recorded
statement does not signify an authorization to bill one's credit card.
I called Tiger Software and was given the same malarkey.
I wrote to the attorneys-general of New York, Florida and my own state of
Pennsylvania, complaining of fraudulent business practice, and suggesting
that this might be happening hundreds of times a day. Then I received a
letter from the subscription house's lawyers--a high-powered firm located
next to the United Nations--suggesting that I "might have forgotten" that I
had heard a "disclosure statement" when I placed the order for RAM. They
did, however, refund the money to me, and they indicated that Tiger Software
had "tightened up" their disclosure statement policy.
About a year later, my wife saw an ad for a computer at an attractive price
from Tiger Software, and she called in an order for it. They took her
information and credit card information, and at the end of the conversation
they just mentioned, matter-of-factly, that the computer was on "back order"
and would be shipped in about 5 weeks! My wife told them not to proceed,
and said that she would not have wasted their time had she known that the
merchandise was not available for shipment. "Too late!" They told her--the
credit card had already been billed the $1100.00! It would take 15 days to
issue a refund, they said . . .
My wife immediately called VISA and explained what Tiger Software had done
to her. She got her refund--but it took over a week.
Tiger Software's ads suggest that they are a substantial company, but they
treated us more in line with one would expect of a fly-by-night Brooklyn
camera dealer.
And Tiger Software still sends me periodic catalogs! They are promptly
deposited into the trash, unread. I will NEVER give those crooks another
penny's worth of business. I still cannot believe that they could have
dreamed up a scheme to have third-parties bill unordered merchandise to
customers' credit cards (and, of course, their defense is that I must have
known about the subscription, as I had already gotten 2 issues . . .).
My recommendation is that you steer clear of Tiger Software, unless you are
a glutton for punishment. When you reveal your credit card information to
them, you are, in a sense, giving them the key to your account--and Tiger
Software has no qualms about picking their customers' pockets. All I can
say is they must be desperate to have to resort to such underhanded tactics.
But I say again, if you are contemplating doing business with them, WATCH
YOUR WALLET.
Like I said above, they have a 7 rating at reselleratings. That means
you have a 30% chance of being unhappy when you place an order, almost
1/3! I don't do business with online businesses with less than a 9
rating. I don't mind gambling, but not when I'm buying computers and
cameras!
Second Points:
Surely it should have been obvious when I questioned the battery life I was
being a wise guy, the review clearly indicated this is hardly a first rate
camera.

I would add that anyone who buys online these days without knowing the
reseller's ratings is just plain ignorant. You have better odds at the
blackjack tables, if you know how to play!
I would pretty much agree, just adding that I live near
one of TigerDirect's outlets, so I dont really buy
"online"... I walk into the store, buy stuff, and walk
out. I dont have too much to complain about TigerDirect
or its practices...
irax.
I don't know if walking in has any bearing on customer service or not.
But if a company had a 7 rating, I'd be very leary of walking in. The
rating tells a lot about a company's attitude towards it's customers.
With a 7 rating, they can't be very concerned about having happy
customers. What makes you think they care more about walk-ins than
online customers? Have you had to make returns there?
You must be a shill for Tiger. They consistently receive unfavorable
consumer ratings. Unfortunately I did not know about their pranks when I
placed my order.
Are you suggesting that I am lying?
Incredible! BBB received an average of 300 complaints per year, over the
last 3 years!
And those are only the complaints that are made to the Better Business
Bureau, not to government officials. No wonder they have been rated as
UNSATISFACTORY!
Well, I've done my Christian Duty by telling about my experience, in the
hope that it would serve as a warning to others. Anyone still wanting to
deal with those crooks must do so at their own peril. It is, after all, a
free country.
But P.T. Barnum expressed it best . . .
Funny that I've gotten several orders from them without a hitch in the past
couple years. Resellerratings show them at about 7 out of 10. Not great but
I checked a couple other places I do business with and they're also in that
range. Looks like their rating is slipping lately though.
Wes
I am not suggesting anything! I'm just saying that I, personally,
always had a good online shopping experience with tigerdirect.
I give credit when credit is due! Is this why you assume that I am a
shill for them? When a website doesn't deliver to my satisfaction, I
drop them.
I'm sorry to hear that they did not provide you with the good service
that you expected. You are free to bring your business anywhere you
want.
Life goes on...
Have a good day.

I have ordered from Tiger at least 4 times over the last three years and
always gotten what I ordered, usually within two business days at the
cheapest shipping rate.
Do you seriously believe they would be in business as long as they have
if they were as bad as you seem to think? Seriously?
Yes, they sell lots of refurbs, repacks, and discontinued hardware that
may not have even worked very well straight from the original maker --
and if somebody doesn't investigate what they are buying, well, I suspect
they might wind up complaining.
Yes, I do. Apparently, the local BBB does, too.

Oh, so it's the buyer's fault, huh? Like, my wife should have thought to
ASK if the goods were in stock before they instantly charged her credit
card? Or I should have accepted Tiger Software's word that they played a
"Disclosure Statement" telling me that they were going to turn my credit
card number over to a magazine sales company in another state?
Even if I HAD heard their "disclosure statement," what was I supposed to do
if I didn't agree? It was a RECORDING. How does one argue with a tape
recorder? Why should one even have to?
I will never spend another cent with them, because in my book, their
practice of abusing my credit cards is tantamount to burglarizing me.
>
>
As long as they accurately represent the merchandise, and they don't bill
your credit card for items not in stock, or items you never ordered or
authorized, I have no problem.
The fact that they had hundreds of unresolved complaints on the BBB files
speaks volumes about them. And, in my case, their abuse of my credit cards
was the moral equivalent of fraud.
I leave it up to the readers of my post to determine whether they want to
take similar risks if they choose to entrust Tiger Software with their
business. I already know what I'm going to do--avoid them like the plague!
Never mind the issues with TigerDirect.. I have never personally dealt
with them, but i know people who do business with them on a regular
basis and they seem happy.. or at least they continue to do business
with them...
That being said.... a $100 5.1 MP camera what did you expect?
Particularly from a top name camera company? :)
In 1963 dollars that isn't far from the 4.95 I spent for my first
camera.. with a couple of cereal box tops. It wasn't very good.. but I
wasn't expecting much.

guess I'll do my Hindu duty and let people know that I
dont have no complaints about TigerDirect :)

Bought a video card, didn't work very well with Flight Simulator, so I
brought it back. They gave me a refund. Can't complain about that!

Well of course. Most profilers are quite aware that Hindus are
more knowledgeable about tigers than creti. . . uh, Christians!
Note: Any accidental slurs involving religion or nationality are
truly unintentional, as I always try to avoid casting persians.

That's mighty white of you.

But not as well as W. C. Fields.
Thanks for your comical response to a serious subject. Perhaps you should
find yourself a nice non-White comedy newsgroup.
ALMOST everyone managed to go with the flow.

Thank you for exposing your true color.

Standard Jeremy behavior. He brought something forward; you,
in a very neutral manner, provided a counter example based on your
own experience.
Jeremy immediately sprang to full battle stations, accusing
you of being a shill (in effect, of being a liar), then, in his own
passive-aggressive manner, tried the wounded majesty gambit --
demanding to know whether you were calling him a liar -- incredibly,
just after making the same allegation himself. He's infantile; pay him
no attention.

BBB is a joke anyway.

Why do you find it necessary to drag your religion into the
discussion? Could not a Muslim, Buddhist or Hindu have done as well?
Or do you find your (capltalized) Christian Duty superior to that of
the other groups?

The prudent buyer would nmake that inquiry. Is the fact that
she's _your_ wife significant?

If it was not to your taste, you should, as is your right,
have taken your business elsewhere.

By taking _one's_ business elsewhere.

Why should _Jeremy_ have to abide by anyone else's contract?

Find a judge willing to agree that their behavior equates to
burglary (defined as: entering a building unlawfully with intent to
commit a felony or to steal valuable property) and show them your
mettle.
Otherwise, here's a Kleenex (tm) to dry your tears with.
I returned the camera at TigerDirect last evening,
successfully, without any problems. Guess a rating of
7 still means that 7/10 will not have any problems, and
I would take those odds if the price is right :)

Obviously another roof job on you.
