Metol is a brand name of a developer like Coke is to soda pop.
The chemical name is P-methylaminophenol sulfate. Kodak's
brand name is Elon. Metol itself will process film at a low
contrast. Developer life is short and the film will have heavy
grain without the addition of Sodium Sulfite. The mixture of
7 grams of Metol with 90 grams of sodium sulfite to one qt water
is called Kodak brand D-23 low contrast developer. Process 5min
at 70 degrees with Tri-x film. Great negs!!!.
