I've been searching the web for info/times for Ilford's DDX diluted 1:9.
Been using it as a substitute for Xtol and while the jury is still out,
I must say it is promising, especially w/ Ilford's delta's. I love the
speed increase, the tonality seems fine, grains good, though I'd like
more acutance (or at least this the sharpness effect I think I'm missing
in the switch from Xtol to DDX).

I'm using Delta 400 (New) and am looking for a starting place --
timewise -- from which to experiment. I'm hoping to make DDX more
economical and possibly to benefit from a higher dilutions.

Any advice would be welcome

Thanks

Although I can't give you a number, DD-X does fine with HP5+ and
Delta 3200 at 1:9. With HP5+ 25% more than the 1:4 time turned out to
be a good starting point for 1:9.

Ilford's web site has a lot of PDFs just chock-full of developing times
for their products.

They even have the info for the "new" 400.

Chock-full, but nevertheless providing times for only the standard dilution
of 1:4 for DDX.

I've been trying to work out some times for using DD-X 1:9. So far, I have:

Delta 3200 at ISO 800 - 13 minutes at 68F

Neopan 1600 at ISO 400 - 6 minutes at 68F

In general, start with the time for Microphen 1:1, and increase it by about
10%.

Thanks Folks,

I think I'll try John's suggestion of starting w/ an additional %25 and
playing around. I'll let you know what I get.

I've found that a good starting point for DD-X 1:9 is the time for Microphen
1:1 plus about 10%. (DD-X works slightly slower than Microphen.)

Thanks Scott & Richard,

This tip about Microphen is very useful. I'll give it a shot.

New Delta 400 (120 roll film) DD-X @ 1:9 for 10min 30sec @ 20C, initial
shake, tap, twist, wiggle then 3 inversion each minute works for me.

Cheers, Nige
