my almost 3 year old bunny, michael, has been having some difficulties with
his bathroom habits. he urinates as usual, he also produces the hard, round
droppings, but he's been having what seems to be diarrhea. Im wondering what
causes this and what I can do to treat it myself.
----------------
my nearly 3y/o bunny has very recently (in the past day) isolated himself.
he will just sit in one of his usual places and stay there for a long time,
at least until I nudge him, and even then he's hesitant on moving. i
sometimes hear him grinding his teeth from a distance, his bathroom habits
dont seem to be as great, and he doesnt even run when i bring out his fav
treats. Im wondering if anyone can help me with diagnosing this issue.
------------------
my rabbit... 3 years old... has just recently been acting all distant
towards people... he just seems to run from one resting place to the
other... his appetite doesnt seem to be the way it was either; he doesnt
react even to his fav treats... he's never acted like this before and am
wondering if its just a phase or if it could be something more...
-----------------

My girlfriend and I would verry much appreciate any help or advice you may
have.
Thankyou very much!!

Hello,
You need to rush this rabbit to the vets. There is an intestinal problem
that has produced an imbalance that could be deadly if not managed. Massage
can help, but you need to be concerned with septic shock (often deadly) and
dehydration (vet or you will need to inject fluids under the skin). If and
when the rabbit gets through this, reduce any carbohydrate treats if there
are any, and reduce pellet levels, increase hay and veggies.

Sounds like enteritis.(an intestinal problem causing excess
mucus and blockage in the intestines.) Symptoms include
diareah, grinding the teeth, loss of appitite, excessive
thirst, sitting hunched up and a bloated look and/or
sensitivity in the abdominal area. Feed him hay, give him
lots of water, and please get him to a vet right away!
Rabbits can die very quickly from this. The vet will give
fluids and possibly antibiotics. Hope this is of some help.
Best of luck to you and your bunny!
