When my iguana is loose in the room and finds a banana, he
likes to chew on the peel, but if I peel it for him, he won't
touch the fruit. The peel by itself is too tough for him to
bite through, but I've never tried cutting it into bite size
pieces. Has anyone else seen this kind of behavior? Would
the banana peel be OK for him to eat?

According to "The Green Iguana Manual", bananas WITH PEEL still on
them should be cut into bite sized pieces. It does say also that
all fruit should be well washed first. My two iguanas are split on
the subject of bananas (*grin* sorry for the pun! er, no I'm not! ;).
One of my iguanas likes only the inside of the banana, and only for
one or two bites. He/she seems to dislike anything clinging to his/
her face and to eat the banana he/she has to get its face in there.
The other iguana wants nothing to do with bananas, peeled or other-
wise.

Peels won't hurt. Information from the "Basic Iguana Diet" chart by Robert
Ehrig of the International Iguana Society states that bananas should be served
with skin.

to Alex: did you get my message? I'm new at this "news" thing, so bear with
me. If you didn't get it, let me know. I have some more information.
