He`s about to shed for the third time soon, around his legs and toes, could
these white spots indicate that he will also shed around the head? (do they
shed near the mouth and nose area as well?)
He also got some of the white stuff on his back toes, guess this is a
shedding sign, eh?
About his tail, it`s not green with brownish stripes, but it gets light
brown with dark brownish stripes closer to the tip. He has always had this
color on his tail, is there anything I can do about it or is it normal?
His dewlap will also turn out greyish I believe, maybe more towards white
when he gets older. But the head is still more greylike than the rest of his
body.
The yellowlike spots on his back has sort of disappeared now, I believe this
is the cause of good change in his diets; a lot of dandelions, collard
greens and vitamin supplement every other day.
Otherwise he`s healthy as ever! The appetite is suprisingly big and rising,
and he has grown a lot since we got him, 2 months ago. His tailrot is so
much thicker, that`s the easiest way I can see that he`s grown.
Please forward any comments about his colors, I`m always worried sick
anyway, and since the color-change is the most significant sign, I need a
conclusion if something`s wrong.

& Iggy, right now wandering around on the ground floor area, trying to find
a nice spot to relieve himself! :)
get it at : www.amazon.com
do a search under Iguana or Hatfield.
also have ya been to Melissa Kaplans site ?
she has good info on coloration of iguanas...you might find helpful...or
"calming" anyway ;o)
These iguanas sure keep us on our toes huh!
Gina
Yeah, I know this might seem odd to all of you experienced guys anyway...new
Ig-caretakers rushing to n.g. and writing down a question for each sign the
animal shows, whether its good or bad...
But I guess you`ve been there too, right? :)
I purchased Hatfield`s book, and it`s great! Still there is a lot to go
through, and not all of it is information that we need right now. Sure good
to keep and look up later on.
Maybe I should have bought an Ig that had just been hatched? It seems like
when they`ve just been born, it could be an easier way to get `em attached
to you, but hey, Iggy is perfect the way he is, and the taming process just
needs to be looked at as a patiently experiment. Thumbs up for it to have a
nice final result! :)
Yeah, shedding...right after I posted this message, I misted him, and
discovered some losened skin on his right backleg. Sprayed a lot of water in
that direction, and will bath him tomorrow. Poor thing, doesn`t know what`s
going to happen...if he knew he`d sue me if he could! :)
About sneezing...he tends to do this every time we give him a soak, sounds
like he`s got water in his nose. I`ve never seen him (or hear him, for that
sake) sneeze when not given a bath.
Humidity progress; When spraying the terrarium and misting him once a day,
the humidity rises to 70-90 % and stays there for at least a couple of
hours. Guess this is alright, the best I can come up with, the zoostores
here are all waiting for the same shipping of waterfalls for reptiles.
BTW, is there an adress attached to this n.g., where I can post pics of him,
so u all can see what a beauty I got in my livingroom? I`ve already scanned
them in, maybe I could just post the adress to this n.g. or?
He ate everything while I was away today, now I`ve just added some more
collard greens, Rumaine and some parsley on top. Two more bowls with squash,
red pepper, strawberries, grapes and kiwi are also placed inside now, and I
can see him, basking on the topfloor, looking down on the food-dishes,
deciding whether to go down at this minute, or wait another half hour, till
I go sit in front of the TV, watching Norway-Jamaica soccergame. He`s such a
clever little fellow, and needs to be misted again, second time today, I can
see the loose skin hanging around his neck, waiting to come off.
Talk to u guys later!:)
strange thing, Iggy is always the first thing I think about in the morning,
and the last thing I think about before I go to sleep. If he`d only
knew....:)
mAikki
& Iggy, should come out and join me for the soccer game, after that skin has
gotten off....:)
Eat your heart out, Iggy! There`s more where this come from....:)
Greatful relief,
mAikki :)
There's a chart with the ratios of some common foods at:

There's a good website with dietary information at:

Ask me about sweet, healthy foster iguanas available for adoption in
Maryland!
Are you referring to the UDSA Nutrient Database for Standard Reference,
Release 12? If not, please post a URL. :)
Which foods, specifically, that I suggested do you disagree with?
Collards are fairly high in Oxalates-- but they also have a great C:P
ratio, so should be fine if balanced with other foods. Watercress is also
high, but again has a decent C:P ratio. The only reason I mentioned
parsley at all was because the original poster had mentioned it (and I
believe I mentioned giving it sparingly-- my apologies if I didn't!)
"Fact vs. Fiction: Clarifying and Verifying the Literature and
Conversatons on the Internet" (Susan Donoghue, V.M.D., M.S., D.A.C.V.N.,
http://www.sonic.net/~melissk/factfict.html) claims that risk from kale is
"exceedingly low."
I wasn't aware that plant protein was a bad thing. My primary sources are
MK and Hatfield. Could you please tell me where to find information
supporting your point?
I'm also not familiar with the effect of phytates or purines on iguanas.
Where can I find this information? Can you also suggest a specific
nutrition book?

The Iguana Mailing List was started by Liza Daly in the fall of 1995.
You can see the archives at http://www.echonyc.com/~gecko/digests/
Unfortunately, the interface went down when the server was hacked so the
search function is temporarily disabled. It should still give you an
idea what it's like. The list was moved after the hacking to Onelist
after the hacking so the most current archives are at IguanaMail at
Onelist.
Current posters include Jennifer Swofford, Anne Marsden, Melissa Kaplan,
Henry Lizardlover, Marie Eguro, Desiree Wong, Bill Myers and a lot of
other good people. Adam Britton subscribes on and off, depending on how
much he has to do in the real world.
Like any mailing list or forum, it has it's ups and downs, but overall,
it's one of the best lists I've ever been on.

No, the white spots kinda follow the mouth line in his face, almost looking
like his upper lip, and I don`t really know if they shed around this area.
The part around his nose is also a little brighten.
He does not look wet, as a matter of fact he hates any kind of "wetness",
and would make sure if this was something he could remove, he`d do it! :)
But we`re going to the vet tomorrow anyways, we`ll find out for sure..:)
