Hibiscus (leaves and flowers) for sure... anything else, look at
Melissa's site at dangerous plants.

In addition to dandelions and hibiscus, which have been mentioned,
also try nasturtium and pansies. (As a side note, our ig refuses to
eat purple flowers. Not any type of flower in particular, just the
purple ones. Go figure.) I'd personally feel that any flower that is
human edible is a least safe (though not necessarily nutritous) for
igs, so also try and get a list from a garden book. (I have one at
home I look at tonight and post Tues or Wed.)

Fascinating!

Other fairly easy to grow plants that will fit right in with the iguana
diet are dianthus (carnations--for the flowers), calendula (pot
marigold, also for flowers), scarlet runner beans (leaves, flowers),
peas, green onions/chives (another personality trait--mine will ony eat
the flowers), and many of the squashes for flowers/fruit.

How's this for a start!

Only as long as you gather them from a spot where you're *certain*
they've not been sprayed or been exposed to run-off from a sprayed
area. Herbicides have a nasty habit of bio-concentrating in animals,
even it they don't kill critters outright, they can do a nasty number
on the animal's ability to reproduce or general health.

Also, something to consider is that in areas which still spray for
mosquitoes, even though DDT is no longer in use, the pesticides being
sprayed have to come down *somewhere*....like the nearby vegetation.
Wash *everything* and if you've even the slightest doubt about the
cleanliness or origin of the plants/flowers...don't use 'em.

Are you guys talking about the dandelion weeds that just grow
in your grass ?

My 4-year-old iggy absolutely thrives on dandelions grown in my side
yard where I never use anything on the grass except organic fertilizers.
The only thing he likes better is althea flowers (Rose of Sharon), which
bloom from early august through September here in the Boston area.
