My finace's red-tailed boa has gone all pink on his underside where he is
usually cream colored with brown spots. He's normal color up near his
head, but further down, he is a rosy-pink color. Does anybody know what
this is? He's aprox 8-9 yrs old and seems absolutely normal in every
other way. The only change in his environment recently has been the
addition of an undertank heater--we checked the floor of the tank though,
and it doesn't feel overly hot. Any clues as to what could be causing
this, or whether it's normal would be appreciated.

I have seen this before, and it's always been from an under tank heating
pad. If it has a
thermostat, try turning it down a little. And make sure that it's only
under a portion of the cage so as to establish a temperature gradient, so
the snake can move from one side to the other if it gets too hot or too
cold.

Many snakes with a hide box will stay there no matter what. If this is the
case I would either remove the hide box or put one on each side of the
cage.

Good luck

My boa has done this for years, all this means is that this is the initial
stages of shedding. Nothing to worry about.

It's simply the initial stages of shedding, nothing to worry about. Most
people I know consider it a sign of good health.

It is really nothing serious.

Bellies in Pythons turn reddish when they ovulate. Could be from the
warmth, but possibly the warmth initiated ovulation....

Mine gets darker before shedding, and is bright pink right after! Also
develops a nice pearl type quality to the color. Is really pretty. I'm
sure he gets sick of being turned over so I can show off his belly!

Beware...I thought the same thing until I found our python had blister
disease and the lovely pink shade was a sign of it rather than the sheds
I had regularly anticipated. AARGH.
