We have a new puppy (4months).
Quite laid back but barks a bit.
Horace our cat is 12 years old, and since we got the dog a week ago, he
hides under the bed all the time.
If we put them near each other Horace the cat spits if the dog is close or
shakes if the dog is just in sight.
The dog alternates between sniffing and barking.
We have only tried to introduce them twice.
I know we need patience, but what is a good method to help an old scared cat
adjust

When I got another cat to replace my cat's sister, the fighting was brutal.
But My idea needs two people. One hold the dog , the other, the cat. Ignore
the spitting.
Bring them not-to-near to each other(not too close) and repeat this whenever
poss.
It may take some time , but you want both the cat & dog, right?

When we brought in the d-pet Akita as 3-month-old puppy, we already had a
bunch of old codgercats (10 years ago).....our vet said, "Don't
worry.....those old cats will show him who's running things here, and by the
way, he will never harm a hair on any of their heads....just be cautious
about bringing a *new* cat or kitten (as if!) in when he gets grown...."
Well, we've brought in more geezercats from various sources to live out
their last years here, and the d-pet doesn't even look up
anymore...sometimes he just gives us a pitiful look as if to say,
"Oh,..another one of *those*....couldn't you ever bring in one like *me*?"

You can check out any time you like
But you can never leave..........
Laissez le bon temps rouler!
