: PLEASE HELP ME! AND BUY MY DOG!
Interesting. His dog is stupid and stubborn but he wants someone else
to pay $400 for him.
Well, I'm absolutely certain that all of my dogs would get
in the chance (and none of them are Min Pins). Just out of
curiosity, why are you leaving the trash where he can get
at it?
Dianne
I don't want to get started but buddy...you don't deserve to own an ant farm. If
you would have spent a 1/2 hour just reading about the breed you would maybe have
found out Minpins require a dominate person to spend time training them DAILY.
Some breeds are NOT for certain types of people...especially ones that can OUT
SMART their owners by getting to the trash. For christ sake your average trash
can is 3 feet tall and your average MINPIN gets what....8-10 inches.

It's no wonder the dogs misbehaves. He probably senses a little bit of
anger towards him. Maybe you should try treating him with some TLC. . .

I can't believe I am reading this!
This post is a perfect example of why a person needs to know about a
breed of dog BEFORE purchasing the pooch.
Min-Pins are not stupid dogs, but they are very aggressive as well
as independent. Because of their nature, they can seem stupid to
the ignorant buyer.
There are many books on the market nowadays that list all AKC
breeds, and even some that list rare breeds and breeds from other
countries, that explain the different breeds, the amount of exercise
required, the breed's grooming needs and ease of training. Read
before buying so you can get a dog that is compatible with your
needs! Don't buy a dog because of its looks!
Sometimes people think a small breed of dog will be less bother and
easier to handle. Not always true. And the Min-Pin is a good
example.
Also, some people think that small dog breeds don't require
obedience training. Wrong. All dogs, regardless of size or breed,
need obedience training. If you decide to keep the Min-Pin...take
it to obedience classes! The classes make a owner realize that the
dog they own needs training and the owner needs to be trained too,
to understand and communicate with the dog.
If you cannot find a new owner and you don't want the dog, please
try to contact a Min-Pin rescue organization. Don't have the dog
euthanized because of your mistake.
Elizabeth
One of the seasoned dog trainers at the Santa Clara Co. Fairgrounds in San Jose
use to train Dobermans. As he got older, he wanted a smaller dog. His personal
choice, Miniature Pinschers! His little MinPin would walk circles around all
those other dogs in the ring ... earned his CDX, I believe. Great little dog.
Red
Would that trainer be Pat by chance? He is a great instructor. One
time, before class started, Pat was talking about his Min-Pin. He
laughed and said that if Min-Pin's were the size of Dobies, they
would be one heck of a guard dog! Most little breeds *think* they
are big dogs, but Min-Pin's *know* they are big dogs! :-) People
that know the breed like that aspect of Min-Pins.
BTW, I never cared for Doberman's as a breed of dog. I had the same
mistaken opinion of the breed being "devil dogs." That was until I
met Pat's Dobie Puddin'. I listened to Pat talk about his Dobie's
and I fell in love with the breed! Puddin' is the sweetest and most
gentlest dog I ever met!

A few questions, Johnny. How old is this dog? Have you ever taken
him to obedience class? If so, do you continue to work with him at
least once a day? Do you have a crate for him? What have you done
in terms of discipline, hitting or yelling? Is he housebroken? Is
digging in the trash the only thing he does wrong? Have you read any
books on dog training?
If you answered "no" to the yes/no questions, then you need to examine
your handling of this dog. It probably isn't his fault, but yours.
I have known minpins that were absolutely wonderful dogs, but they
were in the capable hands of committed owners. You can't paint the
breed with one brush, as you will soon find out. Flamethrower alert!

To Johnny: By now you will have received all sorts of responses that dogs
need training, housing, etc, or you will all be miserable, and it's not
the dogs fault. Sorry if some of those responses were negative in tone
but you've hit a nerve with dog lovers. You are not alone. So many
people get a dog without understanding what a responsibility that is,
and every one suffers. Don't feel bad, just do the right thing now and
find this little creature another home. I'm sure you will take care
of this responsibly now. Right?
To rpd-ers: Isn't this sad. But it's such a good example. I wish we
could show this to everyone looking to be a new dog owner and say LOOK!
THINK! LEARN! And then go get your wonderful new family member.

I am a 15 week old golden pup. Please don't be too harsh on your puppy
though he might not be as pretty as I am (mom and pa always tell me that
I am the prettiest pup in the world). I love the garbage can very much
too. You know, mom always puts all the good stuff in it - Kleenex, food,
even the souvenirs like leaves and sticks I brought back from my
"business" trips to the yard. I don't know what the garbage can had done
wrong, but mom puts it behind bars now. So, may be after all, it's your
garbage can did something wrong instead of your pup.
Sincerely,
Chestnut

Sorry Erin, Sadly this isn't a troll - wish it was- but Mr. Wong has
posted here a few times asking for advice and venting his frustrations
over housebreaking this poor little fellow. There was trouble for this
little min-pin from day one as Mr. Wong couldn't understand why his
dog wasn't potty trained and able to hold it all night at the tender
age of 6 weeks. Many people, myself included, wrote him back with advice
on housebreaking and general dog owner maintenance. Sadly, it doesn't
seem to have helped either Mr. Wong or this little doggy-guy.
Hopefully Mr. Wong will place the best interests of the dog above his
need to recoup his $$ investment and contact the local rescue club or
name a more reasonable price...
Marbles
How very, very sad. I was really thinking this was a troll, just because
what kind of person tries to sell something for a ludicrous price, right
after saying how awful it was. I hope the MinPin ends up in rescue and a
good home. ANd more importantly, I hope Mr. WOng doesn't decide that
somehow this particular MinPin, or even this particular breed of dog, is
somehow defective, and runs right out and gets another one.

I don't know why Johnny hasn't responded to *anything* posted to this
thread. I asked him a bunch of reasonable questions; not a peep out of
the guy. Even though he posted several notes previously doesn't mean it's
not a troll. Some of these guys are very inventive and sneaky when it
comes to creating a flame-fest. They get extra points for worming their
way into a group with "real-life" questions and posts, then go in for the
kill with a real winner like this MinPin post. Then they sit back and
watch the inevitable cacaphony of responses.
I'm writing this one off unless he comes back into this thread that he
started and answers some of the questions posed by many. At least give
us an update as to whether he found a new home for the poor pup. I
sometimes hate being so trusting and naive, but it's been bred into
me. It's been that way in my family for generations!

Who cares if it's a troll or not? Look at the post. He's a jerk at
best. Personally, I HOPE it's a troll. It's better than this guy
owning a dog. I agree that he doesn't deserve an ant farm!
Take another look at the post:
