Can I give my dog Glucosamine??

Can anyone offer an opinion about giving a 20 lb. dog glucosamine. He is
arthritic and I have been told this supplement will help. I haven't an
idea as to how much, if any, he should be given. Any info would be
appreciated.

Hartz makes a product for dogs called joint therapy which contains
glucosamine. They sell it at our local Wal-Mart and Kmart. It has worked
wonders on our dog's arthritic condition. I've seen it in 2 sizes, 50 lbs.
and under and 51 pounds and up. We give our dog 2 a day.
There are other brands of glucosamine specifically for dogs out there. You
might try PetSmart or a Dr. Foster's catalog.

Yes yes yes! Glucosamine/chondroitan sulfate was available for animals
here several years before for humans. I used to share my dog's
capsules. He's a 22-24 lb. beagle, still taking it. Beagles are
omnivores, but he seems to not mind. I'm sure it helped him; am
positive it helped me. Doctors Foster & Smith, a company that offers
mail order (prob. internet order too) veterinarian supplies etc. to pet
owners have one -- Gluc. 500 mg, Chondro. 400 mg. and Ascorbic Acid 50
mg. Per capsule. Up to 25 lbs, one capsule daily. Their # is
1-800-562-7169. At the drugstore you can buy Osteo-Bi-Flex, mfd. by
Sundown Vitamins, for humans, but with 500 Cluco. & 400 Chond., no C.
I'm sure it has helped Darwin. See my message about SAMe -- which I
want to use for joints and liver.

We have a Chesapeake Bay Retriever that has hip and joint problems. We
had found a powder product, however we didn't keep the can and now we
can't find or remember what it was called. Does the medicine you use
come in powder form, or would you know what it could be called. It
works like magic on our dog, Hero, so we're trying to find it for him.
We appreciate anything you might share with us to help. Thanks in
