Can anyone give me info re my sister's white toy poodle that is turning pink?
Natural staining on the face. But his feet are turning pink? I posted this
previously and don't know if it was sent as I couldn't find it here.

I had a grey dog with allergies. The more she
licked herself on her feet, the more they were stained a reddish color
from her saliva. Perhaps this is what is happening to the poodle.

the poodle's hair is picking up minerals from one of a few sources
1. licking it's paws constantly
2. walking in moisture (like dew or rain)
3. swimming pool or lake
i have a white poodle and in the swimming season her rear gets pinkish from
sitting on the pool deck.
you can use diamond eye to get rid of the staining or clarifying shampoo (for
people, rinse very well).
if it's from licking you have to take care that the dog doens't get acral lick
dermatitis or you need to make sure that that or something similar is not going
on.
there is one other alternative- if the dog is not yet fully grown, he may
simply be a "parti-color" dog.

Lynne,

During the days of Gaines (are they still around?) with their
dark red little pellet-like food, I raised an entire litter
of Great Pyrenees puppies with a definite pink hue. It was
obviously from the dye in the food. Makes you wonder what other
things they were getting that we weren't aware of.

Anyway, ask your sister to check the food including the "treats."

A white coat will turn pink from saliva stains.

The way to get rid of Heart worms is to kill them while they are in the dog.
That is done with poison (used to use arsenic). This will indeed make the
dog very ill. Hopefully the dog will survive while the worms die. Then
once the worms are dead the dog is placed on a monthly dosage of Heartworm
medication to prevent the reoccurrence. This too is a low dosage of poison
to kill any worms. It is indeed a vicious cycle, but better than the worms
damaging the heart (that will surely kill the dog). Also if you have a
collie type breed, make sure to use Interceptor or Sentinel instead of
Heartguard as the Heartguard has been show adverse reactions to those types
of breeds.

It is a much easier condition to prevent than to treat.

I've had 2 dogs treated for heartworms. The first one got pretty sick, but
came through. His treatment was the arsenic in the veins. The next one was
given a new type of treatment and never was sick. If your dog doesn't drink
water for more than 24 hours, I'd call my vet.

You mentioned that Heartguard is not good for collies. Do you also mean to
include border collies? I'm wondering since I have a border collie/blue
heeler mix
