At first I thought Mastiff. But I looked up Mastiff and Bullmastiff in my
Eyewitness Handbook of Dogs, and both seemed a little more jowly than
Hank. I also thought Great Dane, but Hank was a little too short for
that, I think, and the head shape was not quite right either.
I suppose it's possible he's not a purebred ... his coloring is
definitely mastiff-like IMHO (tan with black at the muzzle).
E-mail or post replies. Thanks!!
Julie

Wasn't "Hank" a cool dog?! He's no sort of purebred that I have seen
before. I guessed that he might be one of the Really big pit bulls
crossed with a great dane.
I have seen some pit bulls in my local park that were so big and scary
looking that one felt a bit faint just looking. Unbelievable
dogs...almost as scary as their owners... ;)
Guess you could also get a dog like Hank from a mastiff X great dane.
Hank drooled a lot, so I guess it would have to be some kind of a drooly
mastiff.
He had a big bony head like a pit bull.
Okay, first pit bull owners are not scary, and I personally take
exception. Second, Hank is most likely a Bullmastiff with a little of
some other breed mixed in. Possibly great dane. IMHO, he doesn't have
a drop of apbt in him. Oh, and those really big, scary *pit bulls* that
you see in the park probably aren't true apbt, but some sort of street
mix. The movie was really good, so go see it if you haven't. For the
guys - my fiance informs me that it's a date movie (which he hates) but
he liked it anyway.
-Wolffe........What's the matter with big, bony heads?

I forget who originally said it..but "...most people wouldn't know an
APBT if it bit them on the ass." Friend of mine has a chow x lab that
people think is an apbt, while most people haven't a clue about my dog.

Very true; I had some people think my younger lab was a pit mix <roll
of eyes>. You can see her at http://www.io.com/~tittle/waggery/angel.html
for just how much of a "pit" look she has.

Great looking dog. I originally wanted a lab, but while in college I had
a "falling out" with my girl friend. She got my apartment, my clothes,
my dishes; basically everything. I got the *dog* (just 8 weeks old). I
think that I got the better part of the arrangment.<g>

<btw, my dog is an ADBA registered apbt. I have a couple of pictures of
him in the bulldog picture archives at
http://sculptor.as.arizona.edu/foltz/bullys/apbtindex.html
his name is Morrey...take a look and see if you would identify him
properly ;)

I showed it to my month old daughter and she ain't let me sleep for 3
days! Seriuosly, the mis-labeling and such of many breeds is the biggest
problem facing solid examples of these breeds. Oh Well, gotta keep trying
to open a few eyes, ya'll be good.
The more people I meet the better I like to hang out with my dogs.
