We are looking for a small creme colored standard poodle puppy (runt of the
litter size - about 20 to 22 inches). The ideal dog will have a friendly
temperament, have clear (not runny) eyes, have AKC papers, initial shots and
worming, and have pictures of his/her parents available. The ideal dog must
also be able to cope with other dogs and cats. The sex of the dog is not
important.

We live in Nothern Va but we respond to all e-mail. We can be reached at
lotz...@erols.com.

Upon reading your post, one or two things popped into my mind. You
should never request a "runt" of a litter since any dog so described
might have some serious health problems. Responsible breeders would
not sell an extra tiny pup til much later anyway, and then only if it
turned out to be in excellent health. Again, responsible breeders -
and this is hopefully who you will contact for a puppy, will not sell
you an undersized SP with "papers" since the dog, not meeting the
standard would not want to be bred from in the future. You might also
have to wait until the breeder spays/neuters, or you will have to sign
a contract that you will have it done by a certain age. If you find a
breeder with quality dogs, your other "wants" on your list will be
automatic.
I sugges you not look for a dog on the internet in a forum such as
this, since most good breeders with quality stock will not be
advertising dogs here. However f ind out where the SP fanciers meet
on the internet and link up with some people there. You will find
loads of info on these lists or sometimes live meetings and this will
give you a good start. I am sure they have a mailing list as other
breed groups do. A search should find it for you unless someone has
the url for you.
Good luck with your search - and hope you are prepared for lots of
grooming. :)

Liz, excellent post--just one thing to add: In standards, a 20-22 inch dog,
while small, is not even close to being undersized. Anything over 15" is a
standard, technically.

Not to take away from your post, as a poodle person, I loved it, and agree
wholeheartedly. Just wanted to inform on that one point.

Thanks,

Belinda

Thanks Belinda
When I wrote the post I actually did not mention size in inches but
since you have I realise there really is a lot of size allowance for a
standard then. Years ago large minis or small standards used to be
called something in the grooming bis which now escapes me. Someone
else though will no doubt remember. Oh I know a Canish or something
like that. Never did know where that name started though.
Actually if one wants a Standard poodle, then I feel it should be a
big dog, but I suppose some have reasons for wanting a small one.

Believe it is a Caniche. Just another name for Poodle, but I don't know the
country they use this name in.

"Caniche". Means "duck dog" in French, since that is what these dogs were
origianlly intended to be. They weren't originated in France, as many people
believe ("French" poodles), but were popularized there. I've heard that name
somewhere in relation to the in-between size, too. I know one person who has
bred standards for a long time, a had one Westminster group winner, who says
his favorite size is "just small enough to pick up, hold in your arms, and hug
and kiss." Myself, I like about 25- 26". (Although it might be nice to have a
22" dog, then you could be in the 20" jump division in agility!)

I just posted this to the general group, but will reply here as well. If you
have your heart set on a creme colored puppy, then you won't be interested...
but I am looking for a good home for my 3-year old black male standard. (As I
read this, I realize that a full-grown black mail is pretty far from a small
creme puppy, but I'm going to try anyway.)

I was divorced over a year ago, and my dog Jack spends way too much time alone.
He doesn't really seem to mind, but I feel he would be much happier and have a
much nicer life in a family with either children or other pets. He is
extremely smart, well-behaved, a good watchdog, very energetic (a bit moreso
than the average Standard, my vet says) and completely adorable. He'll follow
you all over the house. He is in excellent health.

It is heartbreaking to think of giving him up, but I've given it much thought
and really believe this would be best for him. I live in the Chicago area, but
if I were able to find the right family, I would be willing to deliver him.

Feel free to e-mail me directly: Ann.L....@ameritech.com.
