Hi Guys~

Twenty nine years ago today I adopted my very first dog, a dog that was
really my very own. :)

I have had dogs all my life as my Dad was a big dog lover.

Thirty years ago I had a Chessie and a Golden.

They were mine,but they weren't mine,as I was a kid.

Red died (Golden) and I was in Boston visiting relatives.

I walked into the Animal Rescue League, as I had been doing since, gee
in grammar school,as I always wanted to give the animals a hello.

(It was very close by)

In the dog section, was this "UGLY SKINNY" GSP

So bony staring into the corner.

I thought "What is this dog" ??? ACK!!!

I looked at the card and his name was "Prince" given up by someone in
the airplane industry who supposedly couldn't feed him anymore.

At that time there were a lot of shut downs in the industry.

When I approach the cage, he looked at me so pitifully, and HOWLED.

I said hello but was not enamoured with thie ugly shorthaired dog, that
was like a skeleton.

I went to say hello to the others and he let out some more howls, and
tried to stick his nose out of the cage,to grab me.

I went back and looked at this pathetic guy,and saw in his
eyes,his"soul"

Well I adopted him right there and then, and off we trotted back to the
townhouse

Well a term used here ...when they saw us, the family "almost dropped
their water"

I was such a "do my own thing" even then, that they knew it was hopeless
to talk me out of anything. ; )

In a short time I found that
"Brier",wasn't given up because the guy couldn't afford to feed him, but
because Brier was a NUT CASE, and had been adopted out and brought back
as noone could stand him!

He ate the whole back seat of my vw,he tore up a couch and chair all in
a matter of minutes,he ruined so much stuff, I really couldn't name them
all.

He would eat, throw up and do his business all at the same time.

I'm telling you, he wasn't easy, but I was so very very happy, he was
mine, all mine.

Brier probably was about a year or so old when I got him, and "Sam" my
Chessie was 10, and Brier would try to "fool around with Sam, and Sam
would put him in his place,fast...

Anyway I moved into Boston later that year, and found myself an
apartment,and there I was with a Chessie, a GSP,and a Newfie...

All males and all intact,unreal,huh?

More about Joshua in another installment...heehee

Brier lived out a wonderful old life and died in my arms on January 21st
1983.

That's a story, I tell ya...

I love you Brier.

Thank you, Paulette.
I found this most amazing of all. :-)
And was happy to do so.
I lived in a no-pets apartment in a house. And my boyfriend and I broke up
(that's another installment, too!), and I grabbed the dog, who was always mine,
anyway.

And my landlord agreed that it was a yes-pets apartment shortly afterward.

I feel overwhelmed sometimes with just one pup-dog. And neutered at that.
Glad to hear someone's lived and thrived with numerous ...

I feel more rested already.

Regards,
Laura

You know when I had all three guys it really didn't seem to be so much
of a big deal. Hey I use to hitchhike with them ; ) I was much more laid
back though then I am now, although I always had my dogs care first in my
mind.

Right now I have 12 pups and 7 dogs only four that are really mine.

If I wans't married I would really be out of control. A REAL LOONEY
TUNES!!!

Good thing you got to have your dog, it would have been a bummer if he
wanted him.

That's good. Myself I give priority to someone who has a dog. The bigger
the better ; )

You should have seen us taking a boat down the inland waterway. : )
