No.
Any idea how stupid your post looks? Do you realize that there are
hundreds of breeds of dogs and that owners of these breeds all
probably believe that *their* breed is "the best"?
And "best" at what? Are Rottweilers the "best" at herding cattle? As
seeing-eye dogs? Ar they the "best" as frisbee dogs, even better than
Border Collies? What??
I suppose we should be grateful you didn't say the breed "rulez".
Yawn.
Why not post something useful?

I think there is no point in arguing which breed is the best, since
different people want different things, and what is good for one, is not
good for the other. I have nothing against rottweilers, but it is not the
best breed for me (don't have enough room etc.). Every breed is the best for
someone, don't you agree?
I believe that's called rude and mean-tempered.
Perhaps we could talk more about dogs and less about one's
ability to post to your satisfaction. Thank you.

Hi Sandra~
1. Some Chessies shed "a lot" some shed miminally.I would say on a scale
of 1-10 a brown dog would be somewhat a 4?? on the average. There again,
though Old Whistler would be 10+ ; )
2.They are okay with "your" children, however I have found with my rescue
dogs, that the problem occurs when your children have friends over, and
there is rough housing, A CBR doesn't like what they perceive to be
their "own", that they are "guarding to be "hurt". Thus, the
problem.Ususally resulting in the dog being given away, because , he
"bit" "jumped" "growled" a neighbour child. The child is usually a boy
under ten...
3. Well SIZE DOES MATTER..
A CBR is a much stronger and larger dog than other retriever breeds.
A very SERIOUS DOG...
4.A Chessie, needs mucho "macho" exercise.
Both physically and mentally, to keep that testosterone in
check...heehee
They really do not do well,if they don't get a lot of stimuli.
In fact, I believe a CBR should only be owned by someone who is going to
"hunt"
That's what turns them into a great dog, you know? A great "tuff"
retriever.
People always assume that they are an unusual "Chocolate Lab".Well their
not. They were bred during the "market hunters" prime time, and expected
not only to bring in hundreds of waterfowl daily, but while the hunter
went to market, stay behind, and guard....
EVERYTHING...The decoys,guns,duck boat,blind,the ground they were
standing on.
So think "Guard" as much as "Retrieving" dog, okay?
They think everything is theirs to protect, you know?
I don't like these dog "lists" I have gotten a lot of brown dogs,
because they have gone to these lst, and the list said a Chessie would
be the right dog for them...<sigh>
To round it up, Sandra, I don't think a Chessie is for you.
Why don't you call Lab Rescue or go to your nearest shelter and get
yourself a wonderful lab X,female, who will be sweet, and a much easier
dog for you to "deal with' than a stubborn, opinionated, egotisitcal, take
no crap, know it all, brown dog...
Yes, I know, they say a dog and his/her owner are a lot alike...
Someone once asked Ernest H why he always had to do it his way..
Ernest answered.."Because that's the way i like it"
I loved Ernest...
I think we were related : )
Let me know what you have decided..
Paulette~
oh ps.
Did you ever see the christmas pics of my dogs?
I think Dogman still has it up.

A dogs life is too short...
Their only fault really...

I think you and I would get along famously (or kill each other!) - I suspect
we are very much alike. I will definitely NOT be getting a Chessie. I was
shocked to see them on the list after doing the breed selector. I had
gathered from some of your previous posts that they are more dog than I can
handle. Heck, the reason I didn't get a Lab (always my favorite breed) was
because of my hectic schedule (divorced, 2 small kids, working, insane...).
The little Sheltie guy is content laying at my feet when he has to, or
getting his exercise playing fetch up the hall, or playing outside hours on
end with us on the weekends. He's also been embarrassingly easy to train.
Perfect fit. I am still longing for a big "knock me over" kind of dog, so I
may opt for an adult labX bitch from a shelter when the time is right, one
that might be past the "chew and destroy anything and everything" stage. We
had one of those for many many years and she was wonderful. I do long for
puppy breath, though... decisions, decisions. Good news - I have 16 months
to decide! (Pup is only 8 months right now.)
And YES, I did see your lovely brown dogs on Dogman's sight. They are
spectacular, Paulette. Thanks so much for the Chessie lesson.

All dogs, (humans too) need a great deal of good work everyday. Stuff
toys now kick thier back legs when you rub bellies. That the only dog
that does not deserve a good workout.

You and me too. Say if your neighbor wants to give up their lab, maybe you
