I have been reading the posts on using baking soda (like Arm and Hammer)
mixed in with the cat litter in order to help neutralize odour. Would
this still work with the clumping cat litter? I didn't see any specific
mention of it, and was curious. I have used Pet Valu Extra Strength
Clumping Cat Litter (manufactured in Canada), both scented and unscented,
since I got my cat Josie. The litter works really well, but there still
seems to be a lot of odour. [Maybe Josie is just a stinky cat! :-) ] I
have taken Josie in to the vet and I know she is healthy. I just wish her
litter box smelled a bit better. I was concerned that the baking soda
might negatively affect the effectiveness of the clumping cat litter. Any
information or comments would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Kelly in Ottawa

problem...)

Hi Kelly,

I use "Tidy Cat" scoopable cat litter for my two kitties. The only
time I ever notice an odor is if I haven't changed the entire box
frequently enough. I try to do it every 10-14 days, but sometimes it's
a little longer than that. Also, every other day or so, after scooping,
I'll sprinkle some baking soda in the litter. I think it helps, and
it doesn't seem to affect the "clumpability" at all.

I also use a litter box that's covered with a little charcoal filter
on the top... it keeps the cats from kicking litter all over the
place (except near the opening where they go in and out), looks
neater, and contains any odor there might be.

One more thing... what are you feeding your kitty? I feed mine
dry food every day, and about once a week will give them a treat
of canned food. I've noticed after the canned (wet) food that they
are a bit stinkier.

Good luck!

The baking soda works great with the clumping litter as well!!!

I use the scented stuff usually, but the regular works also.

Once in a while I use potpourri (spelling?) in the litterbox. I get the
good stuff, not any that's been treated, so the critters don't get some
chemical crap on their paws or anything. But, the potpourri smells great,
and the cats seem to like the wild-look to their litter. Just like the
great outdoors! It also scoops right up with their little packages so to
speak. Get some Christmas scents for this time of year so they'll think
they're in some enchanted winter forest when they potty!
Cheers.

We use Nature's Miracle Litterbox Odor Remover. (Okay, maybe the
name is a little different). But, its the same great stuff that
removes urine odor from the carpet, doing its job every time they pee.
Also, JonnyCat (our litter brand) has started adding enzymatic
stuff to their litter. We don't use the clumping stuff, so I don't
know if its in that too, but I would imagine that other brands will
start soon. Seems to work just as well as the Nature's Miracle
stuff too.
