We have a siamese cat "Sam", he's about a year and a half old. Why
are those cats so weird? One minute he's nice, then he'd start bittin
the heck out of you (well not really). I know other people that have
these cats and say their weird. Does anybody else think these cats are
nuts??

My mom has a siamese named sam who is crosseyed and knock kneed - she can't
walk in a straight line. I have a siamese too. They are both very weird.
All cats are, thats why we like them. My other cat is much weirder than the
siamese, however. Actually, it's more like they're eccentric (SP).

I have two Siamese, Tinkerbell and Ariel. I don't find them weird at
all...at least not outside general cat weirdness. They carry stuff
into the food bowl. Hell, what human doesn't carry stuff to dinner
table. They fetch, so do dogs I hear. They are very inquisitive,
anything new I bring into the house has to be thoroughly searched in
case there are any hidden toys with it.

I agree that they aren't any weirder than other cats. My Tessa is
extremely affectionate...to the point that if I'm eating something and
she's yelling at me, it isn't because she wants my food, it's because I'm
not petting her. She's very smart, and very very loud. She gets along
very well with her companions, and is, all-in-all, one of the cutest
Siamese cats in this area.

Yes, even more so than many, if not most, cats like to nose around in
things. I've read in several books over the years that Siamese cats
are considered to be the most "intelligent" of cats. The ones I've
known -- including the stray that I currently put out food for -- bear
that out.

The siamese 'no longer stray' who adopted me may be intelligent, but at 1
year of age, I am most impressed by her high level of goofiness.

I bet he does. I've been there - apparantly starving cat, who can detect a
softy a mile away shows up. Well, I can't see it starve, I'll just give it
a handful of my cats' food. Next thing I know, I am searching for it's
owner and reporting it to the SPCA in case it is lost. And the cat figures
it belongs here, even though my lease allows two cats, not 3 or 4 or 5.....

anything brought into the house has to be put where bootsy can see it,
inspect it, sniff it, and rub it. when i come back from walmart (i
usually go once every couple of weeks for more yarn for my crochet
projects) bootsy must be allowed to inspect the bags. i know he's not
looking for food. he's looking for the toys that i'm supposed to have
bought him. when i come back from the grocery store, bootsy insists on
investigating these too. but in this case, he's looking for his treats.
to him its simple. plastic bags mean toys. paper bags mean LUNCH. :)

My Siamese is all cute and cuddly and adorable until he decides he wnts
to play. Then he becomes about as stable as a drug addict going through
withdrawl.

I've had little brown cats (and some big ones) all my life. Every one has been
strange in some way, but I wouldn't live without them. They are _very_ social
cats and frequently have a great deal to say about your affairs (they are in
charge of course)

My siamese is the weirdest cat I've ever met in my life. at first i
thought she was retarded because she could be fast asleep on the couch and
if i got up to do any thing I'd get hlaf-way to the bathroom let's say and
she'd be crying for me(she was too small to get down by herself, she was
the runt) I'd get her and put her on the floor and she'd be running behind
me. Now we didn't have carpet so I'd take the turn and she would miss it
plus we moved into the house the day before we got her so there were boxes
everywhere. Thus her name Slider. now add to that me being five months
pregnant at the time the handfull of fur slept on my stomach with her head
between my breasts. My favorite story about her is the day my husband was
hanging pictures around the house and she climbed up his pant leg up his
shirt onto his shoulder and when I took her down she did it again and sat
there while my husband finished. While in labor with my son I had a
picture of her up on his shoulder as my focus it was her favorite place to
sit.

I've never had a siamese that wasn't completely affectionate and
wonderful. I don't know what planet you got your cats from if they are so
mean. Guess I've been reaaly lucky.

I am the proud owner of two siamese (brother and sis) and I would not
describe them as either weird or mean as the reply in the newgroup stated.
I grew up with tabby's all my life and it really was hit or miss as to if
they were affectionate or not. I must say more miss than hit.

I find siamese the most affectionate and curious cats going! Mine are like
children. They talk, fetch and constantly follow me around. What ever I am
doing they are right there behind me. I too was putting something away in
the attic on a ladder and they both were right there climbing up behind me!

<trimmed a little>

My Siamese cries for me if she's forgotten where she's left me, but she
does it because she likes to be with me. She comes running when I call
her name, and is a very sweet, smart and loud little cat.

Weird, maybe (all cats are kind of weird, at least my 6 are) but mean? No
way.

When we first got Slider we'd get ready to go to bed and I'd call her
"Slider it's bedtime c'mon" My husband was baffeled "you know nothing
about cats she's not going to come just because you called her." and in
she'd walk jump on the bed lie down on my pillow and go to sleep. If we
talked or anythung before going to sleep she'd give us a little scold
every once in a while as if to say hey I'm trying to sleep Keep it down.

My Danny boy will sit and stare at me if I am late going to bed. If I
am very late (by his standards), he will start to meow at me. "Want to
go to bed?" will elicit more insistent meow-ing. As soon as I turn out the
lights and make a move for the bedroom, he will practically
trip me trying to get in bed first. (Danny's not siamese, but he's still
kind of weird in a sweet way...)

Well, one of mine (European male) is kind of polite, he waits until we
(parents) go to bed and only then jumps between us.

Hi from Finland.

If I say so, it must be true...

My Siamese is kinda weird but all of it in a neat way. Part of it is
because of the limited number of them, thusly inbreading. Does your
Siamese have kinks in it's tail, that is a sign. It doesn't mean there
is anything wrong with him or her, just the family tree doesn't fork very
far. My family has always had Siamese, all have had some degree of
"wierdness" to them but have all been great wonderful friends.

I don't think the kink in the tail means inbreeding. I think it's just a
natural mutation (now there's an oxymoron). My siamese has a kinked tail
and her parent's are not related at all. The breeder gave us a list of
her ancestors and none of the names duplicate. Before you say it, it's
possible that she falsefied the facts but I highly doubt it. She was a
highly reputable breeder and there is no way for me to check. She lived
in New Mexico when I dealt with her and she has since stopped breeding
because Slider's (my baby) natural mommy died shortly after we adopted
her. So she sold all her other papered cats and just kept the pet
quality.

Our Siamese, Priscilla, does the same thing. We refer to it as "reaching out
to touch" someone (usually my husband)!.

Pam,

Cute name for it. Zorro will also lift up someone's hand with his head
so that they are petting/rubbing him, if he thinks they should be. With
Zorro, this is not limited to me, but applys to anyone who comes into
"his castle" for more then five minutes.
