I agree that they aren't any weirder than other cats. My Tessa is
extremely affectionate...to the point that if I'm eating something and
she's yelling at me, it isn't because she wants my food, it's because I'm
not petting her. She's very smart, and very very loud. She gets along
very well with her companions, and is, all-in-all, one of the cutest
Siamese cats in this area.

So does my Mom's calico!
: They are very inquisitive,

Yes, even more so than many, if not most, cats like to nose around in
things. I've read in several books over the years that Siamese cats
are considered to be the most "intelligent" of cats. The ones I've
known -- including the stray that I currently put out food for -- bear
that out.
: anything new I bring into the house has to be thoroughly searched in
: case there are any hidden toys with it.
Do you think they're looking for toys ... or food?! <g>

um, John, don't you mean
The stray I am in the process of adopting?

I bet he does. I've been there - apparantly starving cat, who can detect a
softy a mile away shows up. Well, I can't see it starve, I'll just give it
a handful of my cats' food. Next thing I know, I am searching for it's
owner and reporting it to the SPCA in case it is lost. And the cat figures
it belongs here, even though my lease allows two cats, not 3 or 4 or 5.....

anything brought into the house has to be put where bootsy can see it,
inspect it, sniff it, and rub it. when i come back from walmart (i
usually go once every couple of weeks for more yarn for my crochet
projects) bootsy must be allowed to inspect the bags. i know he's not
looking for food. he's looking for the toys that i'm supposed to have
bought him. when i come back from the grocery store, bootsy insists on
investigating these too. but in this case, he's looking for his treats.
to him its simple. plastic bags mean toys. paper bags mean LUNCH. :)

My Siamese is all cute and cuddly and adorable until he decides he wnts
to play. Then he becomes about as stable as a drug addict going through
withdrawl.
Cheers

I've had little brown cats (and some big ones) all my life. Every one has been
strange in some way, but I wouldn't live without them. They are _very_ social
cats and frequently have a great deal to say about your affairs (they are in
charge of course)

I am the proud owner of two siamese (brother and sis) and I would not
describe them as either weird or mean as the reply in the newgroup stated.
I grew up with tabby's all my life and it really was hit or miss as to if
they were affectionate or not. I must say more miss than hit.
I find siamese the most affectionate and curious cats going! Mine are like
children. They talk, fetch and constantly follow me around. What ever I am
doing they are right there behind me. I too was putting something away in
the attic on a ladder and they both were right there climbing up behind me!

<trimmed a little>
My Siamese cries for me if she's forgotten where she's left me, but she
does it because she likes to be with me. She comes running when I call
her name, and is a very sweet, smart and loud little cat.
Weird, maybe (all cats are kind of weird, at least my 6 are) but mean? No
way.
My Danny boy will sit and stare at me if I am late going to bed. If I
am very late (by his standards), he will start to meow at me. "Want to
go to bed?" will elicit more insistent meow-ing. As soon as I turn out the
lights and make a move for the bedroom, he will practically
trip me trying to get in bed first. (Danny's not siamese, but he's still
kind of weird in a sweet way...)

Well, one of mine (European male) is kind of polite, he waits until we
(parents) go to bed and only then jumps between us.
Hi from Finland.
If I say so, it must be true...

Our Siamese, Priscilla, does the same thing. We refer to it as "reaching out
to touch" someone (usually my husband)!.
Pam
Cute name for it. Zorro will also lift up someone's hand with his head
so that they are petting/rubbing him, if he thinks they should be. With
Zorro, this is not limited to me, but applys to anyone who comes into
"his castle" for more then five minutes.
