One of our cats likes to lie on my chest when I'm in bed and
will often creep closer to my face and then stretch out a paw and
plant it firmly, and deliberately, on my mouth.

Sometimes I think she is just saying "Stop talking and go to sleep!"
at ohers I think it may be some form of love-action.

Does anyone else have a cat that does this or any other ideas as to why
she does it?

Both of mine do it when I'm reclining and they're stretched out along my
tummy and chest. If one of them does this, sometimes it's in conjunction
with a stretch and sometimes she just picks up a paw and puts it there. My
reaction? I kiss the paw. Then the cat will withdraw the paw, reposition
herself, put her head down and continue purring. It's very cute, whatever
the reason. :^)

My cats also do this. With me, they nonchalantly stretch out on my chest
and place their paws (both at the same time, never just one for some reason)
on my mouth. I kiss them and then they roll over, show their belly, and bite
my hands. I have no idea why they do this, as I am usually not talking at the
time. But what's hysterical is what they did to my boyfriend one night -
He was snoring somewhat loudly, and i think Maeregon wanted to shut him up.
She crept onto his chest, cocked her head to this side and that, looking into
his mouth. Then she stuck one paw *INTO* his mouth - which immediately woke
him up.....either that or my loud laughing woke him up...not sure. :)

When my sister's cat Sarabi does this, she just gently bites at
the paws. Sarabi then stops this and finds something else to do, such as
sit on the newspaper somebody else is reading, or start eating the
dog's food and bop the dog on the nose when the dog gets irked.

Our Siamese cat lies on my husbands chest at night... and if my
husband talks to me the cat puts his foot on his cheek as if to say
"don't talk to her". The cat only does it when he is talking. It is
really cute.

Morgen and Lila do this in the morning when IT IS TIME TO GET UP. One
paw in my mouth. Usually works!

HI,
Our Maine Coon cat, known as Kicius is doing the same thing. He likes to
lie down close to our faces and puts his furry paws either on the mouth
or the cheek. We figure that it is simply sign of affection .... kind
of like when he is kneeding" or playing with our hair... Slawek

My tom, Reowel, likes me to scratch his face. When he gets tired of the
part of his face I`m scratching being scratched he will touch my face
where he wants me to scratch now.

Sometimes after I wake up from a deep sleep, I will yaaaaawn rather long
and loudly. It cracks up my husband (and me) that Pud, our 8-year old
female (and current senior) cat will come running from wherever she is,
and try to stare down my open mouth to see where that loud noise is
coming from! Either that, or she just likes my morning breath (ugh!)
