Sammy and constipation

My cat Sammy, the tub-defacator, has ceased that bad habit entirely
because he has ceased! Apparently that was his way of informing me that he
was constipated, or something.
I've phoned the vet and the earliest he can take me is Wednesday.
Meanwhile he, his assistant actually, suggested mixing stewed prune baby
food in with his usual victuals to bring about an easing of the situation.
I started giving him raw liver yesterday but he's not eating it, also a
bit of olive oil in the event it's a hair ball.
I read somewhere that 24 hours without food will sometimes do the trick.
Not sure I agree with that. I think I will try the prunes tonight, perhaps
mix that in with liver cat food. Yecch. Anybody have any suggestions?

Haley's M.O., a lubricant laxative, works wonders for my long-haird baby's
hairballs. It might work on Sammy. My 10-lber gets 2 cc's of it every 10
days. Good luck!
