My outdoor cat has chiggers which are baby mites. They're like little
red dots on her skin. I think my dog has them too. The cat has a tick
collar but it doesn't seem to kill the chiggers. I just put on a new
collar. Does anyone know how to kill these parasites? They'll just come
back anyway though. How likely is it that the chiggers will leave the cat
or dog and jump onto my indoor cats? The outdoor cat has limited contact
since they fight big time but the dog and indoor cats have intimate
contact. If anyone knows anything about chiggers, please E-mail me
directly. Thank you.
When I was around an area that had chiggers, I don't remember them
bothering the cats and dogs. People (and especially me) now is another
thing. They like warm moist areas. Such as under the belt and socks.
They itch like fury. They always told me that you can treat them with
the various methods (from fingernail polish to a product called
chiggerid) and they will itch for two weeks or you can leave them alone
and they will itch for 14 days. I always scratched until I got the darn
things infected, it seemed. Really, I don't know what might get rid of
them. Fortunately, we don't have the darned things here in Oregon.

My best friend, who lives in the Santa Cruz mountains in Cal has two
longhaired indoor/outdoor cats that got chiggers in their ears.
Supposedly people won't get them as they perfer warm moist places that
aren't kept very clean. They had to use regular ear mite medicine and
that seemed to solve the problems.
You probaBLY will need some vet prescribed medication for a whole-body
infestation.
