I dunno. Persia isn't into catnip. Someone gave me a burlap bag "toy"
filled with catnip for her. She sniffed at it, played with it for about 30
seconds out of a feline sense of obligation (it had a bell attached), then
went on about her business. I could smell the catnip when I sniffed the
bag, but apparently it didn't do anything for her. Guess it depends on the
cat.
Personally, I think all cats are "high" on something we can't see, smell or
taste. Lil' devils!

catnip makes the cat who responds to it hallucinate...
my older cat loves catnip, and will roll in it and just get all lovey dovey...
my younger cat will get nasty, and start hissing (which is so unusual for
her)...
so i don't bring it into the house...catnip is said to be 'safe', but i don't
know how 'safe' it is if it's making cats hallucinate...

I think they do get "high". I sprinkle catnip in a large box and my
cats jump in the box and roll all around and get it all in their
hair...then they lick it off and I guess they swallow some of it. It
has never hurt them. I think they even get the "munchies" ......LOL
When the animal shelter here in Waco asks for donation items they
always ask for cat toys -without- catnip. I don't know why and I never
asked...maybe some are allergic to it or maybe they also get the
"munchies" and eat too much.
