My wonderful child knows she isn't supposed to be in the window, but when
no one is around or she thinks no one is looking guess where she goes.
I've tried cayenne pepper on the cill, but that didn't seem to phase her,
but instead started getting all over my desk which is in front of the
window, so I finally had to wipe it off. The windowcill is a bit too
long to try the upside down tape thing. Any suggestions would be truely
appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
What's wrong with her going on the window-sill? All indoor cats do this,
something to see outside.

My outdoor cat does this. He'll sit on the window sill as tear up the
outdoor screen. Since it's winter here, I decided a temporary solution
was to simply take out the screen. When spring gets here I'm not sure
what I'm going to do. Maybe put a pan of water out on the window sill to
try and prevent him from getting the the window sill.

Any ideas?

Thx

I was just reading a good book called "The Naughty Cat" and in it, the
author mentions some other tricks like the Cayenne pepper. One of them
is a white vinegar and water solution placed on the window sill. Another
thing would be, depending on what the window sill is made of, little
puddles of water there (with the vinegar wouldn't hurt) because cat's
don't usually like wet feet.
This would be interesting and would probably teach your sweet little kitty
a lesson and that would be to cover the windowsill with playing cards, all
layed down flat, so that when she tries to jump up, she's not going to
stay very well. Usually one miss and that'll teach 'em. Good luck.

If you know she's sitting in the sill looking out, try surprising her from
the outside (if you live on the bottom floor).

i heard that cats don't like citrus so i tested it and let my
kitties smell it when i was eating an orange. ugh! ick! they
ran away! another thing they don't seem to like the smell of
is peppermint. around christmas i got some peppermint sticks
and the cats wanted to smell. you should see the squinted up
look on their little faces! all scrunched and they get away
from that awful smell quick! maybe these smells can be used
to keep cats away from certain places.

You're kidding, right? Windowsills are God's gift to cats! I bought
my condo specifically because it had such wide windowsills, so I knew
my cats would approve and accept it as home. :-)

I've found that foil keeps cats off of places where we think they
shouldn't be. They hate to walk on it. If laying it flat doesn't work, try
scrunching it up a little bit.

ALL modern homes should have wide window sills for plants and cats.
Contractors, please note.

Why do you want to keep your cat off the windowsill? Just curious, that's
all. I know I could never keep mine out of them. In the summer they lay
in the sun, keep warm and watch the birds and 'free cats' walk by. In the
winter I don't know what they look at but they are pretty intent. The
sills get paw prints all over them, but I prefer that to my furniture.
Just wondered...

How about lying some contact paper 'wrong' side up on the sill? You could
tape the underside to keep it in place, but cats _hate_ sticky feet and I
know this works.

Why would any sane person want to keep a cat from
looking out the window????

The lady in question told me that she was not supposed to have a cat,
her landlady did not want a cat in the house.
That is why she does not want the cat to show himself.
I remember when I was in England we could buy some transparent paper
and stick it on the window, we could see out but not in.

Just a guess - the window is on the 10th (or other high number) floor? My
cats love the windowsills (the fact that the heaters are under them doesn't
hurt) and I have winnowed out my plants to those which don't mind being
dumped on the floor from time to time.

I also have no windows higher than 2 stories, and all are screened.
