When my kitten, Oliver, first met my friend Jessy, he latched onto her
wool/angora sweater and chewed it violently. When she took it off and
put it in an inaccessible place, he licked her arms for almost five minutes
then bit her. We couldn't pry his little jaws open, and finally had to
beat his head and douse him with water for a few minutes until FINALLY
he let go. Poor Jessy was punctured, but not bleeding.
Needless to say, I was appalled. He never acted that way towards anyone,
before then or since.

I thought at first it was a wool fetish, but he ignored any other wool
objects I had. Then, I bought him these rabbit fur mice (Twice as Mice is
the brand, I think), and he went completely and totally crazy. He gnawed
both of them to pieces in a few minutes.

When I went back to the pet store to get more, the guy there told me that
they were sold out, and that the mice were hard to keep in stock. He
said that everyone he talked to about the toys said their cats went crazy
over them, and the owners kept coming in and buying up to ten packages at
a time.

I have a theory: Cats love rabbit fur (profound surprise, huh?)
Oliver had to have been attracted to Jessy's angora when he so terribly
latched onto her and her sweater.

What do you think? Anyone else agree?

Well, my cat lives peaceably with ten house rabbits and has never
shown interest in their fur. Her favorite toy is a peacock feather.

Many of the cats discussed in this group love the rabbit fur
mice. I've heard of people ordering them by the boxfull because
their cats go through them so quickly.

I bought one (silly me, just one!) for my two cats this Christmas.
Guinness is a perpetual kitten and will play with anything, anytime.
But Salvador is a toy snob. He gets rowdy from time to time, but
is a lot harder to entertain. He just likes to run after things.

Well they both went nuts over this thing. It's the only toy I have
ever seen that Salvador just adores. Not surprising, since it's the
perfect size and shape of a real mouse (which he catches regularly).
And it smells really strong; even I can smell the animal odour.

I once had a natural (not dyed) rabbit's foot. Our cat stole it.
He kept that thing until it was so ratty. It would disappear for
months at a time, until somebody finally fished it out from
underneath something. I don't know what it was, but he was very
possessive about it...would growl at you if you tried to take it
away!

we have an angora rabbit named Matilda, who thinks she's a dog, and a cat
named Ramona. the cat pretty much ignores the rabbit (since it can't open
a can of cat food-- not to say ramona is selfish or anything;)) anyway,
i have plenty of angora fur, if your cat is interested...

I had a sheepskin goodluck charm. My then-kitten Tickle would always find
where I'd hidden it and furtively make off with it-growling if I'd get
within two feet of her. This is usually a very sweet cat! Needless to say,
I gave up and it's hers now. She also goes nutsy over those little mice.
Have to remove the tails or she eats them. :\

When I was in junior high, I had an enormous (22+ lbs) orange tabby longhair
named Persimmon. My mom bought a coat for me that had some sort of fur around
the collar. As I recall, we thought it was fake fur, but the day I got it I
left it on my bed only to come home and discover that 'Simmon had spent most
of the day "grooming" it! The whole collar was wet and it _reeked_ of that
awful wet-animal smell. Persimmon had this look of ectasy on her face, as if
I'd brought her the best present ever. From then on, I had to make sure that
I hung the coat up or she would be sure to give it a good bath for me.

I hadn't thought about that in a while. Unfortunately, I lost 'Simmon to FIV
about 3.5 years ago. :-(

I don't know what it is, but we have a fur blanket that our cats love
to knead. We say that if a person has the blanket they'll also have
one or more cats to add warmth along with the blanket.

Late great Aldus (1-16-94 :-( R.I.P.) dearly loved and coveted a big
white rabbit fur parka I got while living in a very cold area. Aldus
would bury his nose in it and sniff luxuriously. He was always trying
to get into the coat closet and get it down or climb up close to it.
This coat was kind of an idee fixe for him; it went very well with his
own luxuriant, 3-tiered white coat with guard hairs and underdown, in
the softest of white and tabby grey and brown, and pink freckled nose,
green eyes, and pink tufted ear-skin and toe-pads. I never could get
too mad at him for seeking out a garment that not only smelled irresis-
tible but matched his white neck ruff and other features to a T. After
a while I began having political qualms about wearing rabbit fur and
didn't have it around as much, but we did eat rabbit meat sometimes.
Aldus partook heartily and with much satisfaction. I suspect that left
to his own devices he would have been a master bunny tracker.

Just about a year ago, on the coldest night of the year, I had to go
with the vet to the intensive care unit of the animal hospital to see
if Aldus was still with us. He wasn't. I couldn't bear the thought of
sending him off for cremation as he was -- damp, tortured looking,
sagging, shockingly smaller than when I last saw him, or so it seemed.
Not into such a bone-deep chill. I knew it wasn't rational, but it
was the only way I could let him go. I took off the white rabbit coat
Aldus had loved so long and sent him with a farewell song on his way,
swathed in rolls and dollops and lengths of furry fragrant what-to-
you-wear-when-you-get-to-cat-heaven coat... I still have the ashes of
Aldus and his last bed, cremated together.Curiously, I never felt
cold on the way home, as if the giving away of the coat or the depth
of all that nights' feelings were generating some peculiar emotional
fire..... Meredith

Our cat , Stinky, likes to lick our bunny, Chili, between the eyes. I can't
say that she is obsessed with it.

We have one cat who was an outdoor stray much longer than any of our others.
This particular cat (Wayward) chewed a rabbit's foot keychain in half
inside of two or three days. He was obsessed with it. The other five
showed only mild interest.

This is embarrassing, but I happen to have kept a rabbit's foot a friend
gave me when I was little. Anyway, my cat found it and was extremely
fascinated - digging at it and going wild! Nancy

My guys treat their "prey" like the real thing. The first time I
brought some home, I had to cut the piece in half to keep them from
fighting over it--this was at 4 months...littermates too.

My cat reacted very strangely to a rabbit-fur cat toy I bought him once.
It was one of those fur-wrapped squeaky cylinders on an elastic string,
and she grabbed onto it, growled fiercely, and immediately tore it off
the string. I was picking up bits of fur for the next week.
