Hello Duane + Laura

Male kittens get their color from the mother, female kittens get their
color from the mother and father-(orange mother with a black and white
father will make toroiseshell female kittens). Your male kitten is
orange because the mother is orange! I think the only way you can get an
orange female is if the mother and father are orange only, seeming how
female kittens get a mix of the mother and the fathers color! I hope
this
helps!

This thread is interesting. I had never heard this about female
orange tabbies. We have three cats and two are orange females (from
different litters)!

Hi I entering this thread a bit late and so I might have missed something
re: recessive coloring. I have an orange (which I also have heard called
ginger) cat who is female. I know her mother was tortoise shell and her
litter mate sister is also tortoise shell. They're father is unknown. My
friends (who gave us the cats) and who had the mother also had an orange
male cat who was neutered but was quite nurturing to these kittens. I
always thought he was their "father in spirit". Can someone help me out
with this? I am not remembering asd much of hs genetics as I probably
should be. Thanks.
