I don't understand. . . my cat loves my boyfriend but is mainly indifferent
to me. I've had him since his birth and he is now about 2 1/2. He was
never a very cuddly cat, but he does like to be pet now and then, when he
wants it. The weird thing is that even though I am the one who feeds him,
cleans his box, takes him to the vet and always pays attention to him, he
gives my boyfriend all the attention. He always hops up in my boyfriend's
lap, and meows to be pet when he never does this to me. My boyfriend
recently went away for the weekend, and the cat didn't even come in my room
once. When my boyfriend came home he went crazy and begged to be pet and
hopped up on the bed and purred. I get so frustrated because I try to give
my cat all the love I can whenever he wants, while my boyfriend often times
will kick the cat out of the room when he wants to be pet or ignore him. I
would never do that, and yet he seems to love my boyfriend and not me. Why
does my cat hate me??!

My best advice with cats is -- play hard to get. Ignore him and let him
come to you.

What you describe is not rare at all. My wife has selected 2 cats as kittens
that were destined to be her babies. She's always wanted a lap cat. When
they were small, I stayed in the background regarding their daily care and
affection. As both cats have grown, they started gravitating to me. While
they do indeed love my wife and respond to her attentions, they seek me out
with an obviously stronger preference. When my father-in-law comes over, one
or the other of the cats will go to him, shamelessly drool and roll all over
him.

The cats will play with me differently than with my wife. While they follow
her about chasing yarn and other toys, they will actually fetch for me. They
also stalk and 'attack' me while they don't display this behavior with her.

This sounds like my story. I don't even like cats, but I bought my wife won
who looves them. The cat does not like her and loves me. She'll bite and
aggresively attack my wife, but playfully stalks me and begs for me to let her
up on my shoulders.

Cats pick the person they want to be close to. I begged for a kitten when we
moved into our new house, my husband finally said "Ok, One kitten" I went to
see the kittens and picked two that were playing together. I wanted two because
we are gone 12 hours a day and I figured one would get lonely all by him or her
self. When I brought them home he was unhappy but got over it pretty quick. The
male (Alex) is beautiful; a real show off cat the little female (Nicky) is
smaller and very shy. I feed both the cats, I give them treats and I clean out
the litter box. An guess what, Alex is very defiantly my husbands cat. He lets
me pet him when it suits him but he sleeps on my husbands' side of the bed and
wants to be in his lap whenever he is home. Nicky will sleep on my side of the
bed and wants me to pet and play with her. They both for some reason love to
watch my husband shave in the morning, as soon as he put water in the sink and
gets out his razor they are both sitting on the vanity watching. He says they
are waiting to see blood. I'm not sure what makes the male love my husband more
then me, he roughhouses with him sometimes rolling him over to rub his belly
and stuff but Alex is very much his cat and Nicky is very much my cat.
