You have been invited by the RingMaster, ciaracat, to add your web site to
the WebRing called Cats of Texas Ring.

Rescue, adoption, and personal sites are particularly encouraged to join!

On WebRing, similar sites are grouped together in Rings and each site is
linked to another by a simple navigation bar. Rings are created and
maintained by the RingMaster, who determines the look and feel of the Ring,
approves sites submitted to the Ring, and encourages others to join.

To become a member of this Ring, visit this URL:

If you have no interest in joining this Ring, simply delete this email.

Yeah no kidding. But I bet a lot of people who read these groups HAVE web
sites.

I was sending these announcements out because I thought some people might
like to be aware of the existence of these Web Rings, or to know that some
of them were back under live management and so will be improving.

Your kindness is appreciated.

Someone ELSE wrote me personally with an e-mail address that doesn't exist
to ask me to stop spamming, accusing me of sending these exact same posts 3
times in the last two days. Which I have NOT done. I've sent each only once,
again, because I thought people might be interested.

If you're not interested, hit your delete key. That simple. Spam is repeated
and/or off topic posting. These Web Rings are topical to these groups.

Good day,
Kat

You are mistaken. I have seen several copies of your messages in various
groups.

Your definition of spam is flawed. If you keep sending multiple copies of
your messages, I will contact your ISP as well.

If we knew what we were doing it would not be called research, would it?

You have posted six different messages about this web ring to the
rec.pets.cats.anecdotes newsgroup within a single hour. They are:

"Do you have a Tabby Cat?", posted on Sat, 23 Nov 2002 04:44:07 GMT
with message ID <BA0463CF.78F4%bar...@earthlink.net>.

"Animal Web Cams", posted on Sat, 23 Nov 2002 05:00:05 GMT with
message id <BA0467AA.7B4C%bar...@earthlink.net>.

"Do you create cat graphics?", posted on Sat, 23 Nov 2002 05:03:35
GMT with message ID <BA04687C.7CAA%bar...@earthlink.net>.

"Cat Web Cams...", posted on Sat, 23 Nov 2002 05:07:55 GMT with
message id <BA046943.7CB0%bar...@earthlink.net>.

"Cat Web Sites in Texas", posted on Sat, 23 Nov 2002 05:09:15 GMT
with message id <BA0469B2.7CB2%bar...@earthlink.net>.

"Coping With Abuse: Their Own Story", posted on Sat, 23 Nov 2002
05:11:56 GMT with message id <BA046A55.7CB4%bar...@earthlink.net>.

All of these messages have substantially the same content (in the
case of "Cat Web Cams..." and "Cat Web Sites in Texas", only the
subject lines are different). According to the definition of spam
you gave above, "repeated and/or off-topic posting", this constitutes
spam. If you keep this up, I will be complaining to Earthlink as
well.

I checked my 'sent mail' folder since it's possible I made a mistake copying
and pasting. It was, after all, late.

And in fact, every one of those posts were about DIFFERENT web rings. Even
the "Cat Web Cams" and "Cat Web Sites in Texas" ones. Different subjects,
differences in first paragraphs, different links, different web rings.

I've posted notices to a few moderated newsgroups, one of which has VERY
strict guidelines, and my posts were approved.

I'm chalking this up to "you can't make everyone happy."

*shrug* Do what you feel like you need to do. Personally, I think your
energy would be better spent going after the jerks who are posting porn and
stuff like that that's actually off topic to these groups. But hey, that's
just me. If you want to strictly regulate what can be posted and what can't,
create a moderated newsgroup. Learn how to use your delete key and/or a
killfile. Or hey... Maybe when someone truly doesn't understand what they've
done to offend, and comes out and SAYS so, and also (might I add)
immediately stops the behavior that has offended... maybe actually try to be
constructive instead of making threats.

I'm grateful for the one piece of constructive feedback I've received.
Easier for me, less likely to irritate y'all, works for me.

Kat
