Has anyone out there had a similar problem? If so, how was it resolved?
Thanks in advance.
>Thanks in advance.
My cats didn't like it at first because they knew what good food tasted
like. I tried many different things including mixing it with water (either
the canned or dried KD, I never tried the soft version) or their favorite
foods. I think what worked best was zapping the canned version in the
microwave for 10 to 20 seconds (my microwave is very low voltage so your
times may vary).
Good luck, they will take to it after time. Keep reminding her that it is
for her own good (yeah, like you'll like it, its good for you!)
There is another company that has prescription diets out now, and one
of them is similar to K/D nutritionally, but has a different taste. A lot
of cats that won't eat the K/D will eat this diet. It is put out by a
company called KenVet. I can't remember the name (they are all called by
Rx 231, Rx251, etc). You might want to ask your veterinarian if they
could get it for you. Good luck.

Obviously I don't recommend this, if you can get your cat to eat the KD
diet, by all means do so, but my cat would literally rather starve.
My 20-year old (Siamese) was diagnosed with kidney problems at about age
15... she absolutely refuses the canned stuff, but will eat the dry stuff.
I had to resort to just not making any other food available. She eats it
now because she's hungry, not because she likes it. After a year or so,
my cat actually came to like the stuff, especially from a freshly opened
bag.
My suggestion is just let your cat get hungry. And give her a treat
maybe once a week. My vet also suggested that you can cook your own
version of the "KD diet", and was willing to give me recipes, but it sounded
more time consuming and expensive than I was really willing to commit to.
Good luck!

They prefer their food warm, like someone else said, and if it's slightly
heated that might make quite a difference. Make sure she has access
plenty of water always (I'm sure you do, but just in case, it's crucial)
and remember if she's really sick with this she'll be nauseous and
headachy, which means she'll be off her food full stop.
Don't give in to her hunger strike for tastier food - if you keep her on
the recommemded diet she'll live much longer and in much more comfort.
Good luck.

My cats heartily loathe canned K/D (it must taste awful to them)and will
only reluctantly eat the dry version; the A/D, an appetite enhancing
variation, doesn't fool them a bit.
Someone recently posted an 800 number for KenVet. Any chance of having
it reposted (my vet never heard of them) so we can call for distribution
data? Thanks
