Squeak is a male neutered 15 year old cat. He and his female litter
mate are much loved pets. They are affectionate, active,
indoor/outdoor cats (no litter box). As they have aged, the cats have
become more needy of attention, demanding and increasingly sensitive
to any changes in their environment. A new piece of furniture, for
example, causes them several days of concern and agitation.
We have tollerated Squeak's occasional spraying, when his needs are
not immediately met or to express his displeasure. But his latest
behavoir is impossible to overlook. He jumps up on my bed in the
middle of the night and emptied his bladder directly onto me. This is
not just a spray, this is full urination. Neither is it aimed at the
bedding...he is wetting ME!
(His previous method of demanding to be let outside or be fed at any
hour of the night was to scratch on the side of the bed and that
worked fine)
I am assuming that he is upset about something (we had a big rain
storm the first time this happened), but perhaps there is another
explanation, or more that I can/should do for him.
Any advice would be most welcome. For now I am keeping my bedroom door
firmly closed! Thanks

The first thing that would be a good idea would be to take
him to the vet for a checkup - cats with medical problems,
especially urinary infections will sometimes urinate in the
wrong place.

Providing them with some litter boxes inside could help.
There are many types of litter, including flushable litters
that are fairly easy to handle. Providing multiple litter
boxes may help, too.

Best of luck!

Have you had him checked by the vet recently for kidney problems and
other problems of old age? Tom (who is now 17) started peeing in
strange places a couple of years ago and it turned out he had the
early stages of a kidney problem. He is now having treatment for the
kidney problem, and we have added a number of litter trays in
different parts of the house (he does still sometimes go outside), and
that has mostly done the trick.
