I would really be interested in finding out how well the $100++ models
handle odor issues. Any help would be a great.
Please no manufacturers, just real satisfied, or unsatisfied cat
owners.
Thanks again!
Steve
We have two littermaids. We and the cats love them. I have a question for
you. Did you find another manufacturer besides littermaid? If you did
could you post them or e-mail me directly with inf..?
While we are happy with ours, I always like to be prepared.
Oh yes, before I forget, we chose two of the "regular size ones because with
five cats we thought one "mega" might create a line... and we didn't want
accidents.
Lee
Bith of mine just love watching the rake go back and forth. I think CK will
sometimes deliberately climb in the box just to make it 'fire'. Both Cinder
and CK will often drop what they are doing to go see the action.
We have 3 of the LitterMaid boxes and find them excellent. We use Better Way
cat litter, which is very fine clumping litter, available from sanex in
Houston, Tx. Randall's grocery did carry it, and so does Bark & Purr in
Austin, TX. Better Way is expensive, so now we're starting to mix it with
Fresh Start.
Pros:
1. The box self-cleans about 10 minutes after the cat uses it. It removes
satisfactorily the large items in the box. However, urine still collects
near the curved part of the box, and we scrape the box clean of that twice a
day in addition to emptying the receptacles. The Better Way litter, being so
fine, cleans so well that we don't need to dump the entire contents weekly.
I do wipe off the box with damp paper towels when it gets soiled. The boxes
shouldn't be washed down with the hose, so the motor parts don't get wet.
2. A converter went out, and we haven't yet replaced it. However, we can
still turn the motor on and off using the switch.
Cons:
1. Litter falls down between the box and the receptacle. It's usually clean
litter, but we need to lift the box and sweep under it anyway.
2. In our tiny house every space counts, and I've stepped and broken two of
the platforms that attach to the LitterMaid to help clean paws after using.
However, we keep a rug in front of the boxes, and the cardboard boxes for
cleaning claws very close also.
The pros outway the cons for us.
Cheers,
Linda
