Hey There,

I would like to see if any pet owners have gone and honoured their
favorite show by naming their pet after a character on Next Generation,
the Original Series, Deep Space Nine, or whatever...
My cat's named Picard by the way...

Yeah, a friend of mine at Cornell adopted a stray who was skin and bones
when she got her, so the little one's name is "Bones." She says the
name no longer fits because Bones (female, black, with golden eyes)
has filled out nicely and is a happy healthy, middle-aged cat.

My cat's name is Miri. That was the TOS episode that was on the day that
I got her...my cat was shy, but curious much like the character on the
show.

My oldest cat is named "Keiko", and the youngest is "Vash". The other is
"Uma" - no Star Trek connection.

I have some friends who got a pair of kitties (5 wks old at the time)
about 3 weeks before Generations came out. He's allergic to cats, and
was lobbying his wife to name them Lursa and Be'Tor. Good thing his
wife prevailed.

Hi, Beth. I am considering several cats for adoption at the moment; if I
adopt one which was rescued but does not have a name, I will definitely
name a male cat Jean-Luc or Q, depending on its personality. (grin). As
for female cats, K'ehleyr comes to mind first (actually Lwaxana came to
mind first, but can you imagine the vet trying to pronounce it and the
receptionists looking up the records if they're not ST fans?) K'ehleyr is
spelled weirdly, but it sounds easier to pronounce.

Having only had slightly ornry (sp?) myself, I guess my choice for
a female cat would have to be Lursa or B'Eator.

Actually, maybe we could come up with an appropriate cat or dog
breed for each ST character:

Lursa: A mean cat
Dr. Crusher: Definately a Golden
Spot: A cat, of course
Pikard: We need a really standoffish, but kind cat.
Riker: A bulldog
Worf: Hmmmm
Troi: Definately a Siamese

any more?

Friends of mine quite a long time ago named their five cats after
characters in the original Star Trek...from what I can remember they had
a Spock, Chekov, ..for the life of me I can't remember the others (I'm a
non-trekkie who only watches occaisionally!) I do remember that one was
named after Spock's father!

Before my wife & I married, we had a cat named Spock.
He was an all black cat, and he was beautiful. Unfortunately he was also
very emotional...just filled with hatred for Debbie, who still tried to love
him all the same.
Needless to say, it didn't work out. After he attacked her for the second
time, he went back to the pound from which he came.
Those months we had him were a great learning experience, to say the least.

For Worf, there is a type of cat just tailor-made. Almost everyone I know
has encountered an immense black tomcat that wanders into someone's life
and adopts them. They disappear as mysteriously as they arrive. Noone
has ever witnessed one being born, and noone has ever found one dead. Their
dispositions tend to be similar to Worf's.

My other sister's version of this cat was named Redhead(don't ask).

And Troi seems more suited to be a Persian. Dax, on the other hand...

Bashir would make a marvelous Maine Coon Cat. They are rather silly
when young, but they mature well, and they tend to be good fighters.
Odo would have to be a calico. Kira would be a Scottish Fold (the Eyes,
dontcha know...). Sisko-definitely American Shorthair. O'Brien should
be a plain old-fashioned cat, either ginger or marmalade colored.

I think Worf is a great name for the Neighbourhood Tom. You know, the semi-
feral, big tough cat who is an excellent fighter - but who displays some
interest in alien cultures (like that of indoor cats), especially when
inspired by food.

I was looking to name a cat and Star Trek happened to be on at the time.
Thus the cat was named Omicron Kitty One after the planet Omicron Ceti 3.

Yes: Sargon (1984-1988) and Thalassa (1984-12/10/1994, R.I.P.).
Only true Trek trivia mavens will know what I should have named
a third cat if I had gotten one at the same time.

was Sherman because she is built like a tank, but when she was officially
mine, I had to have a Star Trek name. My other cats are 8 and 18 years
old, so i wasn't old enough to really be into trek. I am only 22 now. I
was just getting into it when maynard was born. they only had trek on at
midnight, and i had to go into the attack to watch it. Bad reception out
in the farming area of northeast Iowa. When i returned to Seattle, I was
disappointed not to have Star Trek. I had to wait about a year and half.
then i really got into it.

Gee, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one to indulge in this sort of silliness.
I have an adorable black kitty named Vash (the sometime girlfriend of Capt.
Picard). When I got her from A.D.O.P.T. she had some bizarre name that I
couldn't remember. So I had a cat naming contest at work. One of my
co-workers had several suggestions based on the Klingon "language" (he had a
copy of the Klingon dictionary). Translated they came out to things like
"Black beast of death" or some similar nonsense. Anyway, one of them sounded
kind of intriging. So I started saying it over and over to see if it would fit
(and if I could remember it). Any way knowing my proclivity for reverting to
nicknames, I shortened it and it sounded very similar to Vash. My friend
looked at me and said, "Yeah, Vash!" We both figured that if that character
were ever reincarnated she would come back as a cat. So now I have a cat
named Vash. As for a nickname, well, usually I'll just call her Tunabreath.

My beautiful Zarabeth is named after the character that Spock fell in
love with (when he was transported back 5000 years and was stripped of
his emotion :-), played by Mariette Hartley. Spock told Zarabeth that
she was more beautiful than any dream of beauty he had ever known. I
picked Zarabeth from a friend's litter and named her at about 3-4
weeks because I could tell how gorgeous she was going to be. She's a
silky, medium-haired tuxedo cat with a little "milk mustache" on her
upper lip. She definitely deserves the name Zarabeth. :-)

I name my two cats Spock and Bones several years ago. Bones was a more
emotional cat who needed human contact. Spock had very pointy ears, was
the most intelligent cat I've known, and wanted human affection only on
her terms. Their name totally fit. BTW, they were both females. Bones
is still with me at the age of 17. Spock died when she was 9. They were
sisters. The only thing that didn't fit with Spock is longevity.

Later I took in a gray tabby and called him Scotty. He died of old age;
at least that's what the vet said.

my newest kitten, now 7 months old is named Kira after the character in
deep space Nine. She is very cute and fits the character except for two
things. My kitten is built like a tank (definitely not graceful) and she
will never be called an EX-terrorist. She takes my socks everywhere and
has claimed a woll scarf. sometimes you just see a blue streak run by.
She pays with any kind of ball, including tennis balls and soccer balls.
She likes to stop it and hold on like a goalie.
