Everyone has had experience with "blanket mice". That is, cat on the
bed, you move your fingers under the blanket and kitty oblidgingly
attacks the moving "blanket mouse". Pye and T'pring have raised it to
a new level. T'pring enjoys burrowing under the blanket on the unmade
bed. Sometimes Pye comes along and see's the HUGE "blanket mouse".
Naturally this has to be dealt with so the butt goes down, wiggles a
bit and !POUNCE!. Unfortunately, T'pring has no idea what's coming so
when the attacks come the result is one covered cat looking
desperately for a way out from under the blanket. Not an easy task.
This results in some thrashing and a BIGGER lump. Pye now knows it's
her or "the Blanket Mouse" and the fight is on. Eventually T'pring
finds the edge of the blanket, zooms off and Pye is left with the
satisfaction of having stomped another one of those critters into
dust.

The world is safe again.

[cute story cut]

One thing I have to commend our Biggie Bando on, he plays a mean game of
"blanket mouse." The great thing about playing this game with him is
that he rarely chases my hand once it is pulled out from under the
blanket. I'm sure there are several of you who have played this game
only to have the attack cat continue leaping after your hand. Only on
rare occasions do I get wounded in this game. Bando either understands
the difference between my hand and the "mouse" and obligingly ceases the
chase once the blanket barrier is removed, OR maybe he *doesn't* make the
connection and that's why he doesn't continue the chase. Either way itÕs
like a switch. Hand in = "Kill that thing", hand out = "No more mouse!
Job well done."

Shadow definitely knows it is a hand (or foot!) under the covers but will
go for it anyway. I think Tiger is a little denser under all that fur
and waits for the mouse to move even after we leave the bed.

Blackadder used to chase bubbles in the waterbed when we'd change the sheets.
He'd hear the bubble under the mattress, wind up, and pounce. 'Course, then
the bubble would move....
