Hi again, Renee,

So, I read your second msg :-) Try to feed Gus using your finger:
take a little amount of canned food on your finger and bring it to his
mouth. If he doesn't open his mouth, you should help him opening and put
the food in his mouth even though it's kind of forcing him. He maybe
doesn't know what you're giving him is a food for him. In my cat's case(
by the way, his name is Chou-Chou = my loved one in French ), before he
arrived at my home, he had never eaten any food in solid form ( he had
only taken some milk ). When I gave him canned food for kitten in his bowl
for the first time, he smelled and licked a bit, and then, that was all.
So, I did what I said above. It worked quite well, and after having
swallowed the first bit from the finger, he started to eat by himself the
food in his bowl. So, why not trying this method? ;-) But be sure to
give him foods for the kitten, not for the adult cat.

You said,
> When he eats canned food, he'll start sucking the moisture out of it and
eventually >just sit there, eyes closed, sucking on his tongue. It's as
if he were still sucking from >his mom or something.

Yep, he conserved this habit of sucking to get milk from his mom. Don't
worry, it's very natural. :-) Like my Chou-Chou, he was taken away from
his mom a little bit too early. He needs to suck something. Chou-Chou
used to suck my hands especially the fingers, and even sometimes he sucked
my husband's neck while he was sleeping :-)
There, you know, my husband had some smaaaaaaall kiss marks on his neck *grin*
But as he grew up, he forgot completely this habit which I actually loved :-)

Hope your Gus will eat soon.
