Materials needed... The collar, a collar cutter, a staple, needle/long nose
pliers, and a drill.

Also might be a good way to make more collars out of one large collar since
you are using a minimal amount of material.

Cut it to size, end-to-end, just touching, no overlap. Good idea to use a
prior disposable collar to get the length just right.

Drill a 1/8 inch or less diameter hole, leaving at least 1/8 inches of
material at the end (about one half the length of a staple).

Use a staple of choice. I'm using ordinary work staples, sturdier than an
office staple. To attach the collar, stick the stable in through the inside
of one end of the collar, but the collar around its neck, stick the other
side of the stable out through the other side of the collar. Then use the
pliers to curl the outer ends of the stable inwards, effectively like
stapling the collar from the inside, through the holes.

That's it. It's easy to do and reasonably easy to apply. And it will likely
come apart long before choking your cat if it ever happens to get caught on
something. Maybe the 1/8 inch worth of collar material will break first. But
if not, the staple will easily unravel under pressure.

Bonus tip!
Those little reflectors the collar comes with can be hot melt glued to your
bicycle helmet. Neat way to provide great (passive) visibility when cycling
at night.

Anyone following this idiot's advice deserves the result(s) - which, as-described, could well be a dead cat. But, the cats absolutely do not!

a) The ultimate tensile strength of a T50 staple - the most common heavy-duty (AKA "Work") is 160,000 psi.
b) The slipping point of the OEM Design is about six (6) pounds.
c) The breaking point of the OEM design is about eight (8) pounds.

Material width: 0.030". Thickness: 0.0215". So, do the math. You will get a 103.2 pound tensile strength on the staple. As compared to a six (6) pound slipping point and an eight (8) pound breaking point of the original design.

Draw your own conclusions!

Tensile strength of the staple has nothing to do with the use as described
in my original post.

This is like saying the tensile strength of somebody's arm determines how
much they can curl. I would give further examples, but hopefully nobody
else is stupid enough to need them.

I've been building stuff since this idiot's dad was in diapers, tensile
strength has nothing to do with anything. This poster's only contribution
to this group is incessantly invading everybody else's space with its
stupidity...

And you know more than the designers of the collar - who also have product liability to consider.

You were an idiot, remain an idiot and will be so forever.

A sad, deranged idiot whose only purpose for hanging around this group is
not to contribute, but forever invading the space of, and bashing, anyone
who does contribute...

You're the guy who puts a belt around the neck and under one of the fore
limbs of his cats to hobble them, aren't you? If you're too broke to use
one flea collar for one cat you shouldn't be allowed to have any cats.

What else do you do? Mix sawdust with their dry food to make it go further?
