Hello Cat Lovers,

I found small yellowish oval shaped objects around my cats rectal
area. I went through his stools but didn't find any worms. These
small (about the size of the head of a pin only oval) yellowish
objects look like they may be some sort of egg. I noticed them a week
ago and thought it was just debris that my cat sat in (he goes
outside) however he grooms himself often and I noticed them again
today. I removed them and can't figure out what they are and as I
said I went through his stools from the litter box and don't see any
signs of worms. I searched the web to see if there might be some pics
of these egg like objects but came up empty handed.

Does anyone out there have an idea of what they might be. I don't
even know if worms in cats come from eggs. I did have a cat that had
worms and the diagnosis was easy because it looked like a worm, was
moving and was around the rectal area. I've had cats my whole life
and never saw this.

Thanks for any help you may be able to provide

You need to bring in a stool sample to your veterinarian, and have it
analyzed for worms. It's definitely possible that it's worms. And it
should be diagnosed and treated accordingly by a vet.

Missed this original post but sounds like a tapeworm to me. A tapeworm releases
segments that come out the cat's anus. When they first come out, they look like
little maggots but they quickly dry to look like tiny yellowish grains of rice.
Sound like what you saw? It's a quick fix, one pill. I didn't even have to
bring my cat into the vet, just described what I found and they gave (well,
sold) me the pill.

I'm not sure if it would be tapeworm. Only because of the size description.
The OP said the "eggs" were the size of a head of a pin. Tapeworm gravid
egg segments are much larger, almost a centimeter in length.

I do know roundworm eggs are shed in the feces and once in the environment
are very resistent to dessication. However I'm not even sure if they are
visible without a microscope (ie I'm not sure of the exact size).

You could try

No pics, though.

If they look like rice, yes rice, then your cat has tapeworms.
