This plus the post you made about toilet training leads me to think that you
are a new cat owner who doesn't know much about cats.
First off, when was the last time you took your cat to see a vet for a
check-up? It's always a good idea when a cat is behaving in a way that is
not 'normal', to have it checked out by a vet to rule out any physical
problems.
Second, assuming that this is not a health-related issue - your cat is not
crying to piss you off. He's crying because he's trying to tell you
something. It's your job to figure out what it is that he's trying to tell
you. Do some reading on cat care and cat behavior. A good web site is
www.tallyville.com and I suggest you spend some time there reading up on
Tally's general cat care and cat behavior links.
Are you already trying to toilet train this cat? If you are, maybe that's
why he cries all the time.

sounds like he's bored. how old is he? if he's still very young, then
he is almost certainly looking for some entertainment. a second cat
could fill much of this void, giving him somebody to run around with.
in the meantime, knot up an old sock and voila, cat toy.
if it's an older cat, then it may be something more serious, needing
vet attention.
and about keeping the door shut, well, you're just asking for trouble!
no cat alive can resist the mystery of a shut door ...

Before you buy.
In addition to Jimmys possibilities, it could also be some sort of stress
factor. Cats that are stressed (usually by big changes) often start to howl
a lot. For instance, the first time I fostered a mother and kittens for our
local no-kill shelter, Sammy wouldn't stop meowing at nighttime. Another
example, Just recently I have gone to university, and my parents told me
Sammy is driving them crazy... meowing extremely loud day and night. When I
come home on the weekends he is fine, and doesn't meow.

I did like the curiousity and the shut door thing, that was cute!!!!!!!!!
Kitty
My cats are all very interested in running water in all its forms. They
like to watch the toilet being flushed, they like to play and drink out of a
running faucet and they like to investigate the tub after I've had my shower
each morning. It's not that uncommon for cats to be fascinated by water,
but I think it would be a mistake to interpret that as an indication that
they want to be toilet trained.
If you cat is an only cat the meowing might be an indication of loneliness
or boredom. Consider getting a second cat as a companion for him.
As for the potty training, cat litters are not natural either and it is the
best thing to do since he goes around with me quite a bit visiting people in
their homes. It is really inconvenient bringing around a litter box wherever
you go, and the smell :( Also I have a few friends who are allergic to cats
and this keeps the smell and scent down. I know someone who has trained
their cat and the cat is fine with it.
I never said that is was an indication of wanting to be trained but
sometimes you need to be open minded about things. Litters are not natural
either, cats dig in gardens and sniff around for somewhere to go and then
they bury it in their cat hole. My cat will not drink from a water bowl but
from the bathtub. I leave the water on a small steady stream and he loves
the constant fresh stream. He also plays with the water. Fortunately, we do
not have water meters here, we use as much water as we want!

Another cat does not always solve the problem. He was with another cat and
they were partners in crime! He is very well behaved by himself and he gets
plenty of company and visitors. He is just a cat who likes to talk all the
time! Here he goes again!
All three of my cats, loved running water in all forms, to the point where
they would jump in the toilet or in the shower with you. (Luckily they only
jumped when the toilet was not in use.)
I've since bought them two Drinkwell pet fountains which is a fancy schmancy
water bowl that continually recirculates their water. I have not had any
problems with them in the shower, toilets, or in the sink while brushing
teeth.
You cat may be just thirsty for running fresh water.
As for the opera singing. Join the club. Here's what ya do. Record her
(or him.) The put it in one room, turn it on and go to bed. I think Fuufy
just likes to hear herself, and she has taken to sleeping in whatever room I
put the cd player in. There will be a little "talk back" at first, but it
only lasts a short while. I'll also do this when company is over.
Now if I can only record her CHIRPING at the birds for the vet to hear.
