My favourite cat sound is purring, as it is with many of you. It's
relaxing, because it means your moggie is contented (unless he'she is
in pain, because cats sometimes purr then).

And I'm listening to another favourite cat sound right now. It's
Emily, our Little Grey Girl, softly snoring behind me in a cat bed on
a work table. It also has a soothing effect on me every time I hear
it!

How about YOUR favourite cat sounds?

Of course, purring and snoring lead the way. Maggy May has a wonderful
full-throated warm purr, Sunrise an understated little trill and
WooToo is in-between. Missy, who hates humans, purrs when one of the
other cats, especially her mom Maggy May, grooms her and sometimes
when interacting with one of the dogs. HER purr is very moving for me
as I really want her to have a good life, even with the hated two-legs
around.

But it is WooToo's "command chirp" that takes the prize. It means "do
something, NOW" and sometimes I can figure out what she wants by where
she's standing when she says it. Sometimes I just do trial and error
until I get it right.

What about that "effort" trill sound they make when they jump up on
your lap, and the reverse-effort "mruf" they make when they jump down
from a high spot?

Persia "talks" to me all the time. She says "Meow-ma!" when she wants food.
That's funny. I do love that deep rumbly purrrrrrr when she's right next to
me. But then it settles down to a very soft purr as she dozes off... I love
that too :)

With dear fat little black Sophie, when she jumps down it's more of an
"Oooof!"

Sarsi's loud rumbly purrs when she's on the right hand side of the
toilet between that and the wall....I wish they could talk so they
could explain to me exactly why that bit of the bathroom from the
radiator valve to the back wall is Sarsi's and why she loves it so
much. Dunzi won't go there even if Sarsi isn't about but get Sarsi in
there and she's lets out these incredibly loud purrs then when she
turns round and head rubs the radiator valve keeping this noise like
approaching thunder going

Right now I'd love to hear the thunk on the counter, followed by the
very soft meow that means Molly is in and would prefer a treat to
the readily available kibble.

She took off last evening and hasn't come home. It hasn't been
terrible long and lots of garages haven't been opened yet today, but
lone enough to make me uneasy.

Purring is not only my favorite cat sound, it's my favorite sound,
period. There is no more relaxing sound in the world - not ocean
waves, or even rain on the roof. OK, rain on roof is right up there
for relaxation, but not for the "awww" factor.

Got to hear my current favorite sound a bit ago.

We have new next door neighbors moving in this weekend. I'd guess
Molly either got closed in or spooked by all the strange people.
They have friends moving them, so its a lot of 'strange' people and
activity. Everyone went away about an hour ago, probably to reload,
and a little later she showed up at the door.

But darn curiosity anyway. She ate and drank and then insisted she
needed to go back out. She likes being an in and out cat. Me, I
don't like it for her all that much.

I'm glad she showed up. I hope she is easier on your nerves this time
out.

The soft purr is the best sound I know. When my aunt went home and I was by
myself for the first time since being in the hospital. I would wake up, be
uneasy, stretch out a hand and touch one of three cats and the purring would
begin. Eventually the other two would move within petting distance and
would have a regular chorus. Easy to go back to sleep then.

Yes, that's a good one and I'm glad they are helping you convalesce. I
don't even mind being woken up by WooToo when she wants to get back
under the covers after one of her late-night circuits of the room. I
wouldn't mind anyway but the very sweet purrs she emits as she asks
for some help with "her" blankets are very pleasant. I left out one
sound I like, the crunching of kibble. Sometimes she doesn't need me
to wake up to let her back under the covers as she woke me beforehand
when she stopped by her bowl for a quick snack. It is such a _healthy_
sound and she loves the stuff so much. Yet she doesn't overeat and
gain weight. She is always, according to the TEDs over the years, just
a little bit heavier than they would like but never enough for it to
cause alarm.
