Every year on the third Saturday and Sunday in September, the “Cat’s
Party,” or “Party of the Curruñao,” occurs, during which 100 cats are
drowned, butchered, and consumed as part of the feast of St. Efigenia
in the village of La Quebrada in San Luis de Cañete, Peru.
The organizers explain that the cats that are made into various dishes
are bred especially for this festival. The locals believe that eating
meat from this domestic animal prevents bronchial diseases and has
aphrodisiac properties.
The attendees ate various dishes with feline meat: cat pork rinds,
milanesas [breaded meat cutlets] and other dishes such as grilled cat
al huacatay.
I wonder if you could write to the organizers of the event and get
their recipes?
